The system features the Apple M1 Pro 10-Core Chip, which provides the power and performance needed to handle your professional workflows. The 16.2" Liquid Retina XDR display features a 3456 x 2234 resolution, 1,000 nits of sustained brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, P3 color gamut support, and more. With up to 512GB of SSD storage, you'll be able to load massive files and launch apps quickly, enabling you to work with photo and video libraries from almost anywhere.

Designed for All Types of Creatives

Apple M1 Pro

Packed with 33.7 billion transistors, the Apple M1 Pro integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Built with 5nm process technology, the Apple M1 Pro delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The 10-Core CPU features eight performance cores and two high-efficiency cores. The 16-Core Neural Engine provides support for on-device machine learning acceleration and improved camera performance. The M1 Pro offers up to 200 GB/s of memory bandwidth as well as support for up to 32GB of unified memory. The efficient architecture of M1 Pro means they deliver the same level of performance whether MacBook Pro is plugged in or using the battery. The M1 Pro also features enhanced media engines with dedicated ProRes accelerators specifically for pro video processing. With up to a 16-Core GPU, the M1 Pro delivers up to 70 percent faster CPU performance than the M1.

16.2" Liquid Retina XDR Display

Featuring mini-LED technology, this MacBook Pro houses a 16.2" Liquid Retina XDR display. Delivering up to 1,000 nits of sustained, full-screen brightness, a high 1,600 nits of peak brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a billion colors, the Liquid Retina XDR display can handle the extreme dynamic range of HDR content, providing detailed shadows, brilliant specular highlights, deeper blacks, and vivid colors. The display is less than 4 mm thin, which is achieved by having seven films and diffusers that mix and shape the light efficiently. The oxide thin film transistor (TFT) allows pixels to charge twice as fast as before.

ProMotion - Up to 120 Hz Refresh Rate

With ProMotion technology, the MacBook Pro automatically varies the refresh rate to match the motion of your onscreen content. This helps preserve battery life while also making tasks feel more fluid and responsive. This means that the display can have up to a 120 Hz refresh rate. Video editors will also have the option to lock in a refresh rate that is optimal for their footage.

P3 Wide Color Gamut

The narrow-band LED-powered backlight allows the MacBook Pro to represent the P3 wide color gamut for brilliant, true-to-life color in photos and videos.

Storage - Bring Your Whole Studio with You

The MacBook Pro can be configured with up to 8TB of SSD storage so you can take your photo or video libraries with you no matter where you're headed. And with superfast speeds, massive files load in an instant and pro apps launch in a blink. This particular model comes with a 512GB SSD.

Thunderbolt 4

Thunderbolt 4 combines ultra-high bandwidth with the versatility of the USB Type-C industry standard to create one revved-up universal port. It integrates data transfer, charging, and video output in a single connector, delivering up to 40 Gb/s of throughput for twice the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 2. The MacBook Pro is equipped with three ports, so you can do all of that from either side. Existing devices are easily connected with a cable or adapter. And Thunderbolt 4 is reversible, so no matter how you plug in, it's always right side up.

MagSafe 3

MagSafe 3 makes connecting a power cable quick and easy while also protecting your MacBook Pro. Apple also brings fast charging to the MacBook Pro, allowing you to charge up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

High-Fidelity Audio

Spatial Sound Speakers and Better Mics

The MacBook Pro features a high-fidelity six-speaker sound system, which has two tweeters for a clearer soundstage as well as four force-cancelling woofers, resulting in 80 percent more bass. The sound system also supports spatial audio, providing a three-dimensional audio experience, whether you're listening to music or watching a movie in Dolby Atmos. Apple also has studio microphones that have a lower noise floor, resulting in clear calls as well as voice recordings.

Full HD 1080p FaceTime HD Camera

Now with a Full HD 1080p FaceTime HD camera, the MacBook Pro uses the ISP and Neural Engine in M1 Pro and M1 Max for computational video that enhances video quality.

System Navigation

Physical function keys are back with the Magic Keyboard on the MacBook Pro. Replacing the Touch Bar, the familiar, tactile function keys have made their return. There is even a wider ESC key.

Touch ID

The Touch ID enables fast, easy authentication for secure logins and purchases.

Force Touch Trackpad

Speed your workflow with Force click and multi-touch gestures.

All-Day Battery Life

Apple MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro Late 2021 Reviews

Macbook 16.2 M1 Pro chip 32GB mem and 1TB disk

So far everything has been exactly as I had hoped. I did not copy over the data from my previous MacBook (2013) as part of the setup, but afterwards using Airdrop mainly (easy and fast). I went with 32GB or memory and 1TB disk, which required it being ordered (not in Thanksgivings initial allotments), but it arrived 3 weeks before the estimated date. Performance has been very good, display clear, crisp and fast as is the laptop in general. The only thing I have struggled with is the greater resolution (i.e. smaller text size). The warning on MacOS about changing the default to a larger text size has me initially leaving it at the default and handling it individually with the various apps (mail, Pages, Numbers etc) with varying success. The sound is very good, much improved over what I was coming from. Not a cheap investment, the most by far I have ever spent on a computer, but BH was running a special financing plan at the time that sealed the deal. Hopefully will last as long or longer than my previous MacBook Pro.

The photographer's dream

I'm a stills photographer and I use Lightroom for about 80% of my post-processing, and Photoshop for the remainder. I also make heavy use of Topaz's AI Sharpen and DxO's Silver Efex. I went from a 2018 MacBook Pro with 16 GB of memory to the 16 2021 MBP edition (not Max), with 32 GB of memory. The biggest drag with the 2018 MBP was waiting for add-on programs like Topaz and Silver Efex to process full-frame files -- especially Topaz. On this new version, between the faster processor, the dedicated GPU and the faster and, expanded memory, these very useful editing applications really zip - as in maybe 5 seconds for Tops AI Sharpen to recalculate a sharpening mode and 13 seconds to apply the selection and save the output file. The files are typically 42MP DNGs. If you set the default monitor mode to the built-in Photo option, the match with my calibrated NEC monitor is excellent, as is the color rendition of the prints. If you're a photographer who goes past the basics in post-processing, this computer is what you have been dreaming about. (Purchased elsewhere, alas, because as of early December, B&H couldn't say when they would be able to deliver.)

It came ready and easy to use with the latest OS. I didn't even have to transfer the software of my older Mac, just installed what I downloaded.

Best MacBook Pro laptop

Got the base model, didn't see a need for the higher end as I'm not editing 8K video or doing any serious color correction. But wow this thing is impressive even at the base model. I was shocked with the 2020 M1 Mac Mini with a 10GBe and stock everything else, was able to edit multiple streams of 4K footage from RED on that with no issues, at times I'd have to put the playback down in Premiere but only with extra stuff loaded onto it. I expect this laptop to keep outshining what my expectations are. Everything loads fast. No hang ups on programs opening. Photoshop performs so quick compared to my other Macs.

Love my new Apple 16.2 MacBook Pro

When I ordered my new 16.2 MacBook Pro M1 Pro Chip (Late 2021) I was replacing a 15 MacBook Pro that was 12 years old. It was a great laptop and still working but Apple no longer supports it. The new MacBook is every bit the quality that I am used to plus much faster and the new screen is fantastic. When I ordered my new MacBook B&H estimated it would be 2 to 4 weeks to be in stock. I received the order in two weeks. Thanks B&H.

Do Your Research

I purchased the 16.2 MacBook Pro M1(16GB ram) and thought that most of my video editing problems would be solved, but that is not the case. I edit in FCPX and have not been able to edit a single project since I have purchased this computer. There is the constant beach ball spinning the majority of the time when editing. I have shut down all of my programs and still, the beach ball continues to spin. I have Googled the problem and it appears that a lot of buyers are having the same issue. I am using macOS Monterey and have been told that it is buggy. Do your research before you make your purchase. For me, it was a lot of money spent for a laptop that does not perform as I thought it would.

Great performance with the most taxing Photoshop and Premier Pro tasks with lots of fast solid state storage for media. The number of Thunderbolt/USB ports is adequate for external drives and displays.

I have a 2013 Mac Mini and am thinking about a laptop replacement. How much hard drive space do you need for that configuration, using mainly Lightroom or Adobe applications?
Asked by: Anonymous
When choosing an Apple 16.2" MacBook Pro with M1 Pro Chip, the storage space will depend on the user and if they are using internal storage or external storage. For many people, the 512GB is enough and they have most of their storage on an external hard drive.
