The system features the Apple M1 Max 10-Core Chip, which provides the power and performance needed to handle your professional workflows. The 16.2" Liquid Retina XDR display features a 3456 x 2234 resolution, 1,000 nits of sustained brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, P3 color gamut support, and more. With up to 4TB of SSD storage, you'll be able to load massive files and launch apps quickly, enabling you to work with photo and video libraries from almost anywhere.

Designed for All Types of Creatives
Apple M1 Max
Packed with 57 billion transistors, the Apple M1 Max integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Built with 5nm process technology, the Apple M1 Pro delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The 10-Core CPU features eight performance cores and two high-efficiency cores. The 16-Core Neural Engine provides support for on-device machine learning acceleration and improved camera performance. The M1 Pro offers up to 400 GB/s of memory bandwidth as well as support for up to 64GB of unified memory. The efficient architecture of M1 Pro means they deliver the same level of performance whether MacBook Pro is plugged in or using the battery. With up to a 32-Core GPU, the M1 Max can provide up to four times faster GPU performance than the M1. M1 Max also offers an enhanced media engine that features two ProRes accelerators for even higher multi-stream performance. As a result, professionals can edit up to 30 streams of 4K ProRes video or up to seven streams of 8K ProRes video in Final Cut Pro. Video editors can even grade color in HDR on 8K ProRes 4444 video while on battery.
16.2" Liquid Retina XDR Display
Featuring mini-LED technology, this MacBook Pro houses a 16.2" Liquid Retina XDR display. Delivering up to 1,000 nits of sustained, full-screen brightness, a high 1,600 nits of peak brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a billion colors, the Liquid Retina XDR display can handle the extreme dynamic range of HDR content, providing detailed shadows, brilliant specular highlights, deeper blacks, and vivid colors. The display is less than 4 mm thin, which is achieved by having seven films and diffusers that mix and shape the light efficiently. The oxide thin film transistor (TFT) allows pixels to charge twice as fast as before.
ProMotion - Up to 120 Hz Refresh Rate
With ProMotion technology, the MacBook Pro automatically varies the refresh rate to match the motion of your onscreen content. This helps preserve battery life while also making tasks feel more fluid and responsive. This means that the display can have up to a 120 Hz refresh rate. Video editors will also have the option to lock in a refresh rate that is optimal for their footage.
P3 Wide Color Gamut
The narrow-band LED-powered backlight allows the MacBook Pro to represent the P3 wide color gamut for brilliant, true-to-life color in photos and videos.
Storage - Bring Your Whole Studio with You
The MacBook Pro can be configured with up to 8TB of SSD storage so you can take your photo or video libraries with you no matter where you're headed. And with superfast speeds, massive files load in an instant and pro apps launch in a blink. This particular model comes with a 4TB SSD.
Connectivity
Thunderbolt 4
Thunderbolt 4 combines ultra-high bandwidth with the versatility of the USB Type-C industry standard to create one revved-up universal port. It integrates data transfer, charging, and video output in a single connector, delivering up to 40 Gb/s of throughput for twice the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 2. The MacBook Pro is equipped with three ports, so you can do all of that from either side. Existing devices are easily connected with a cable or adapter. And Thunderbolt 4 is reversible, so no matter how you plug in, it's always right side up.
MagSafe 3
MagSafe 3 makes connecting a power cable quick and easy while also protecting your MacBook Pro. Apple also brings fast charging to the MacBook Pro, allowing you to charge up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
High-Fidelity Audio
Spatial Sound Speakers and Better Mics
The MacBook Pro features a high-fidelity six-speaker sound system, which has two tweeters for a clearer soundstage as well as four force-cancelling woofers, resulting in 80 percent more bass. The sound system also supports spatial audio, providing a three-dimensional audio experience, whether you're listening to music or watching a movie in Dolby Atmos. Apple also has studio microphones that have a lower noise floor, resulting in clear calls as well as voice recordings.
FaceTime
Full HD 1080p FaceTime HD Camera
Now with a Full HD 1080p FaceTime HD camera, the MacBook Pro uses the ISP and Neural Engine in M1 Pro and M1 Max for computational video that enhances video quality.
System Navigation
Keyboard
Physical function keys are back with the Magic Keyboard on the MacBook Pro. Replacing the Touch Bar, the familiar, tactile function keys have made their return. There is even a wider ESC key.
Touch ID
The Touch ID enables fast, easy authentication for secure logins and purchases.
Force Touch Trackpad
Speed your workflow with Force click and multi-touch gestures.
All-Day Battery Life
Battery
From pro workflows to everyday tasks, the MacBook Pro delivers power efficiency while still maintaining performance. The MacBook Pro can deliver up to 21 hours of video playback.

Apple MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max Late 2021 Reviews

Hope you never have to use it

It is what it is. I basically just got it in the case I spill something on it or drop it and crack the screen. Nothing much to else to say about it really.

Love the computer and great service!

Moving from an older PC, this is my first Mac computer and I love it. I freelance in design and photography and wanted something that would be robust enough for the possibility of more graphics work in the future. I got a deal with this being the 2021 model and a better chip (Max chip) than I could have bought for the same price on the latest model (would have been an M2 Pro). My biggest debate was a 14 or 16 screen. I decided on 16 and even though there's quite a difference between the Mac's 14 and 16 inch laptops, it was no larger or heavier than my current laptop (I had a 15 screen on my Dell and dimensions were measured a little differently, but the Mac is slightly lighter in fact). I also spend more time on just the laptop itself without a second screen, so the larger screen size was nice for me. And of course because it's a newer and more robust laptop I love how lightning fast it is. I haven't gotten into a lot of my design work much yet but what I have done has been super fast. I'm so happy with the purchase and thankful that B&H had some older (yet brand new) models that I could purchase for much less than the same thing on the new models.

I LOVE.

I am obsessed with my new machine!! It works so well. I bought it for video editing 4K footage and it is seamless! I had a Macbook Pro 2015 before this and the fan would get so loud from working so hard to keep up with footage. This new machine is perfect.

Exactly as advertised, delivered quick, and phenomenal price

I thought the price was too good to be true but it was significantly less than Apple store or any other retailer and it was brand new perfect condition, and delivered quickly and significantly less than anything else out there. Touch

B&H consistently has great prices on quality MacBooks. This is the second one, which I have bought from them. They always deliver on quality and value. This particular models satisfies my needs: A professional laptop near the top of the line, without the wasteful cost of unnecessary bells and whistles. The package arrived at my home quickly and without any damage. Thanks B&H!

Great deal while you can still get a heft discount

Got the model with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage including 3yr AppleCare+ while there was a hefty discount on that bundle. Wanted it to mainly switch over music creation from my Windows gaming desktop. Use case there is recording guitar using an army of amp sims and VSTi's for bass and drums. Was pretty painless moving all my Cubase projects over and having a second monitor is super helpful, definitely wanted the 16 for that reason. There's still a lot of plugins that are not native to Apple silicon, but more than enough of them are for it not to be a major concern. Even using Rosetta it still performs just fine though I can feel the difference. Just a couple days ago decided to switch back to running it native to see if I could get away with only using plugins that are native to Apple silicon and more than enough selection. It's actually helped me stop tweaking so much and just get on with recording. If you rely on a lot of plugins that are not native yet you'd probably be better off running you DAW in Rosetta to avoid having multiple simultaneous Rosetta instances for each plugin as if the DAW itself is running using Rosetta they run more efficiently. It's kind of nuts that after 2 years+ since M1 (18 months for the M1 Pro/Max) a lot of plugin developers have still not updated most or any of their builds. (Neural DSP looking at you). It's made me take a second look at STL ToneHub and AmpHub, which I'm finding suits my needs. The second reason is software development, but I had an older LG Gram 17 with Fedora on it that was serving that need and I don't really need to talk about how well macOS works for that. Easily replaces that as well. You might be saying, but you didn't need an M1 Max just for music production and software development (no GPU workloads), the GPU is a wasted expense in that case. I decided since I could get the M1 Max cheaper (~$500 at the time I pulled the trigger, not sure if that's changed now) than an M2 Pro with the same 32GB RAM and 1TB storage and 3yr AppleCare+, and the CPU speed was similar enough for my needs it wouldn't matter much. Since it was $500 less for a better GPU I wanted to see how good the GPU would be for some gaming on the side. It's definitely not going to hold any candles to my SFF 5600X + 3080-10G gaming desktop in that regard. And lets be real anyone serious into gaming as a hobby has to still run Windows and buy an expensive GPU. Given that I was pleasantly surprised just how good the M1 Max can handle some decently taxing games. I've been back into a CRPG kick and the ones I have in my list to play until BG3 releases (also native..) and Starfield (will be back on the PC for that one) run fantastically. Quite honestly my gaming desktop is going to gather dust aside until Starfield and maybe the CP2077 DLC. Really happy with the purchase, it's pretty much replaced all my other devices aside from more intense gaming use cases that are Windows only. Getting it new for $500 less than a same spec'd M2 Pro 16 was just icing on the cake.

I have two 27" thunderbolt 2 displays, will they work with this platform?
Asked by: Frank
Yes, the Apple 16.2" MacBook Pro with M1 Max Chip (Late 2021, Silver) would be compatible with two 27" Thunderbolt displays. However the Apple Thunderbolt 3 Male to Thunderbolt 2 Female Adapter (APMMEL2AMA) would be required to make this possible.

Do these new MacBook Pro's still have Airplay?
Asked by: Danny
I bought one of these and could not get the Airplay to work with my Samsung TV. The airplay on my iPhone 11 worked perfectly with the same Samsung TV, but the MacBook would not. I had read complaints about this problem on the Internet. B&H could not resolve the problem nor could Apple Support. I returned the unit to B&H. I'm waiting for a resolution to this problem before buying another.
