Combining truly professional camera hardware with a "go-anywhere" vlog-friendly form factor, the Sony Xperia PRO-I 512GB 5G Smartphone is the answer to elevating your mobile content creation to the next level. The "I" in "PRO-I" stands for "Imaging," which the Xperia PRO-I delivers in abundance. Capture crisp, detailed stills with naturally rendered bokeh and exposure control, and record cinematic videos that can be saved natively to memory in 4K at up to 120 fps. Videos of fast-moving subjects are possible thanks to Video Eye AF and object tracking, also at 4K/120p. These are just some features of a triple-camera array that also includes a 3D iTOF depth sensor, a 16mm ultrawide, and a 50mm standard lens. All three lenses offer 12MP resolution and large pixels for exceptional low-light performance.

To further ensure that what you shoot is of extremely high quality, Sony incorporates a BIONZ X processor for dedicated image and video processing. This adds improved noise reduction in any shooting mode and real-time 12-bit raw processing at up to 24 fps. These are just some of the PRO-I's imaging capabilities, which are mirrored by robust hi-end smartphone functionality. Mobile features include a large 6.5" 4K HDR OLED screen for immersive gaming and video streaming, 5G network connectivity for fast broadcasting of content on location, and support for both Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos audio formats for even more realism.

GSM/4G LTE + 5G Wireless Connectivity

This phone is designed to work on select GSM & 5G (Sub-6) networks. 5G is a cellular network data protocol capable of extremely fast data speeds that rival, or surpass, that of wired broadband internet providers. 5G speeds can vary considerably based on location, but on average, should have no problem streaming 4K video. As 5G upgrades over time, mobile AR and VR applications could become possible. The phone is backward compatible with 4G LTE, 3G, and 2G data for locations that do not support 5G.

North American Variant / US Compatible 5G

The Xperia PRO-I is a North American variant. It may be used in other parts of the world; however, 5G access may be limited or unsupported, depending on the network. Please choose your country/carrier above to confirm the network compatibility of this phone.

Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS)

Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) allows you to lower your mobile costs when traveling while staying connected. Once your SIM cards are installed, you will be able to receive phone calls and text messages from either without needing to manually choose which one is active. When you want to make a call or send an SMS message, you can select the correct SIM card. When one SIM card is being used for a phone call, the other will not be active until you hang up. Operator charges may apply.

Android 11

This phone runs Google's Android 11 operating system, which gives you access to the millions of available apps in the Google Play Store, in addition to a host of built-in capabilities. These capabilities consist of an array of new and updated features that are meant to enhance your mobile experience. Below is a small list of highlights that you can enjoy with the release of Android 11.

  • Conversations: Pull down on your screen to manage ongoing conversations from multiple message apps. If there's someone you speak to often, you can prioritize them to show on your lock screen.
  • Bubbles: Continue to use your phone while popping in and out of ongoing chats. A chat bubble floats above your apps and contains pinned conversations you can access with a tap.
  • Screen Recording: Without needing an extra app, you can use this feature to record your screen with or without audio or showing touches you make on the screen.
  • Control Smart Devices: With a long press of the power button, you can see and manage all of your home's connected devices in one place.
  • App Permissions: Pop-ups give you the ability to grant apps one-time permission to specific information and functions. You can also have permission settings auto-reset for unused apps to keep your data secure.

Sony Xperia PRO-I Reviews

Great phone

It took me a while to get used to Sony's UI. The cameras were great on this phone. The pics are sharper than Huawei P30 Pro. But there's no screen capture shortcut. You have to make it mulit-task screen first, then click capture screen. Not convenient at all. No data download/upload status on the top as well. People buy this phone mostly for camera only. And I prefer on screen finger scan instead of side button. But Sony obvious preferred the side button.

Best Android Camera

Sony has put the best image sensor (although cropped from full size) and manual camera / video control into a smartphone. If you're a camera power user and are familiar with alpha cameras then this is the phone to get. Build quality The glass back and front and metal frame feel premium and is grippy. You get to keep your sd cards and headphone jack. Manual video and camera shutter button with integrated lanyard loop into the frame. Screen quality Very nice. Not the brightest but amazing clarity. But beware not nearly everything will run in 4K. Operating system Very vanilla android experience. You either love it or hate it.

Best Smart Camera phone ever

You can feel the quality of this phone when it's in your hand, then the pictures and videos when you start shooting with it, just as easy and familiar as my Sony RX 100 VI Camera but plus a smart phone. No problem connecting to AT&T 5G through Cell Booster they provided for free (got to have a new AT&T 5G Sim card, it's also free) , always get 5 bar LTE signal at home within 3000 Sq.feet. If you already have Sony TV,Lap top.. got to have this phone to make your system complete. Nice.

XPERIA PRO I BEST PHONE 2022

I bought in December now about 2 months in, i will say the Phone lives up to the cost. Battery life is as it says, 24 hours you should get of normal usage. With the amount of usage i use my phone ill be glad i get 12 hours, and this phone is just that. The ideal android phone, obviously on the high end but its so worth it. The camera alone is the best camera i've seen on an android phone to date. and i've had many different. I moved from the galaxy family over to sony, and im glad i did. Just one thing has upset me though, i wasn't able to customize my navigation bar buttons. So sony please make that happen on update. thank me later. But overall i give the phone a 9/10 on appeareance and feels a bit heavy in the hand.. 10/10 performance wise. You won't make a mistake buying this phone. Make sure you get a case and screen protector. I cracked my screen unfortunately the first month i had it but it still worked. :) Satisfied Customer, Xperia all day!

3 months in, working great

I love the camera and the display and it works well as a camera monitor for my A7S3. My only complaint is that I need to use a capture card for that to work, which is a pain and wasn't so clear in the marketing.

Neither a good camera phone, nor a good phone camera

I wanted to love this phone. Really did. Was very excited when I heard about it. 1 sensor, SD card slot, and a 3.5 jack in 2021? That's really rare. The latter two features are the only reason I decided to still keep the phone. It's not really a great phone. One of the main issues is battery life and charging. Battery lasts only half a day when heavily used. There is no wireless charging. Charging status is also very confusing. It's not displaying Charging Rapidly on the main screen even when it is. It also comes with a weird battery-memory prevention feature that sets it to charge slowly if it's plugged in over night (to prolong battery life). I had to turn it off as I kept waking up to my phone being only half charged, which was extremely annoying. Especially when the battery isn't great even to begin with. As far as the camera goes... It overheads. As always. It's a Sony after all. I should've known better. It's practically useless for any sort of prolonged use, or if you are using it as a phone (for GPS/Google Maps, etc.). Just came back from Hawaii, and it was impossible to use the camera after having used the phone for navigation/Google Maps. Without without using the camera for that, it overheats very quickly. *EVENT IN 1080P*!!! Yes, it overheats in 1080P, not even 4K. So it's practically useless for me. I ended up ordering Galaxy S22 Ultra yesterday after having use Xperia Pro-I for just a month. I'm still debating if I'll keep it long term or sell it. You can use it as camera monitor I guess, but I don't know how quickly it will overheat or how good the battery life is going to be (haven't tried that usage yet). You can use it if you are trying to be ultra-lite for hiking and don't want to bring a camera, but I'll always have my a7R IV and/or a7 IV with me. It's hard for me to find a compelling use for it. I do love the fact that it's working perfectly with a 1TB SD card, and yes, I can plug in my non-Bluetooth earbuds in it, which is great. I really wanted to stick it to Samsung for dropping those features, but I can't. I'm crawling back to Samsung like a little b..... So... see other reviews and see if the phone is for you. I'm still deciding if it's for me, but I'm currently resenting it for the most part.

Terrific Camera/Phone

I am really happy Sony is moving in this direction. I have thoroughly enjoyed taking photos and videos with this phone. The 24 mm lens with large sensor is fantastic. The RAW photos are a bit green/yellow when shooting indoors, but easy to correct in Lightroom. The phone is fast and responds well. The battery could be much better, though. If taking a lot of photos/video, the battery drains fast. Overall, though, a great phone and an even better direction Sony is taking in this.

The high end hardware is great. But the software is terrible. I think it's an camera with phone function.

Obviously this is based on the individual, but I'm wondering if this would be worth it just as a camera device and Wifi (that is, no phone connectivity). Thoughts? Would anyone get it just as a camera?
Asked by: Sam
That's exactly how I'm planning to use it. I tried using it as a phone, and it's horrible for many reasons (see my review). But I do like the SD card slot and 3.5" mm phone jack. Camera is questionable as the 1" sensor isn't really getting used (only a portion of the sensor is used). But I think I will keep it as a multi-media device with somewhat decent camera capability. I'll try using it as a camera monitor for my several Sony Alpha cameras. It's a bit expensive as such a toy, but I can afford it and will probably keep it. As far as the full phone + camera solution, I just purchased Galaxy S22 Ultra.
