Nikon FTZ II Overview

Featuring a streamlined design with minimal projections, the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter offers the same functionality as the original FTZ but with a sleeker design to suit its use on cameras featuring a battery grip. This adapter removes the tripod mount and has a reduced overall size for more comfort when shooting with cameras with a built-in or attached grip or wireless transmitter.

As an adapter, the FTZ II enables the use of nearly any F-mount lens on Z-mount mirrorless camera bodies. While compatible with approximately 360 distinct F-mount lenses, this adapter is especially ideal for use with over 90 AF-S and AF-P type D, E, and G-type lenses, where it fully maintains autofocus and auto-exposure capabilities for seamless use of the SLR lenses on the mirrorless body. The adapter is built from magnesium alloy and is weather-sealed.

Nikon FTZ II Reviews

Very useful!

I recently made the switch to a mirrorless camera and this adapter has been so helpful in making use of my old lenses. It would be great if it were a little smaller, but it definitely works in a pinch!

The auto focus and overall operation of all my F mount lenses is great on the Z9 with this adapter.

Good for Hand Holding

I like the original for reducing the strain of heavy lenses. This version is fine for lenses that are usually hand held.

Second time's a charm

What the FTZ should have been in the first place. Mostly use the adapter to mate my Z7 with my F-mount 70-200 2.8, which has its own tripod mount. The mount on the FTZ just got in the way. The FTZII works well, even with much older lenses, and is much easier to use. Would reduce rating 1/2 point for cost (guys, it's just an educated extension ring), but restore it for going back and doing it right.

I don't seem to loose any focus speed using f mount with ftz or z mount lenses. Just adds a little weight which I can live with

Very useful for adopting all Nikon F mount lenses to Nikon Zfc body. I use both AF and manual focus F mount Nikon lenses on my Nikon Zfc with this excellent adopter.

This is how the FTZ should have been in the first place

The only real difference between the FTZ and FTZ II is that the later removes the useless tripod socket so that the adapter fits on the Z 9 with the dual grip. I never understood why Nikon put the useless socket on the original FTZ since I have Arca Swiss compatible plates on all of my cameras, and feet on lenses big enough to need them.

The original FTZ adapter does well with Sigma lenses. My interpretation is that they mainly updated the design of the adapter since the original had the tripod foot. It should work the same as the previous one which works great with Sigma lenses.

No, this is an adapter that makes up for the difference in flange focal distance between an F-mount SLR and a Z-mount mirrorless camera. It will retain the same focusing range (minimum focus to infinity) of the attached lens as if it were being used on an SLR.

Since the FTZ II does not come with a tripod foot, can a tripod foot be added on or attached to the FTZ II later (is it a new modular design with an attachable/removable tripod foot option)?
Asked by: Anonymous
As far as we are aware, it cannot. Your only option would be to consider the original FTZ adapter.

The electronic performance is the same as the previous model. Nikon redesign the adapter by removing the tripod mount and has a reduced overall size for more comfort when shooting with cameras with a built-in or attached grip or wireless transmitter.

It supports AF on AF-S Type D lenses. For a lens that is not AF-S it would be manual focus. However, it still supports all exposure modes on the Type D lenses.

Works well with lenses Zeiss: Otus, Milvus, Planar and Distagon lenses?
Asked by: WERNERSAM
The Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter works with third party lenses but Nikon optimizes it for Nikon brand. AF-S Type G, E, and D; AF-P Type G and E; AF-I Type D: Full support of autofocus, MF (with electronic rangefinder support), full auto-exposure modes, and exposure metering AF Type G and D: Manual focus only (with electronic rangefinder support), full auto-exposure modes, and exposure metering. So, not all third party model lenses will work or work as well as the listed Nikon ones.
