Not sure the answer given is what the customer intended, or maybe it was... Anyway, I was wondering if the other person wanted to know if the Tokina (electric contact points on the lens mount) communicates with the camera internals on the Fuji. Fuji is noted for holding lens communication protocols close to the vest. Has that changed?
Yes. In this particular case, Kenko-Tokina has licensed the communication/AF protocols from Fujifilm. This is information sourced through the web, from an interview by DPReview with Fujifilm's general manager of their Optical Device and Electronic Imaging Products Division.

I read somewhere that Fuji was quite protective of their lens design protocol. Has this changed? Did Tokina reverse-engineer Fuji's protocol?
Yes. In this particular case, Kenko-Tokina has licensed the communication/AF protocols from Fujifilm. This is information sourced through the web, from an interview by DPReview with Fujifilm's general manager of their Optical Device and Electronic Imaging Products Division.
