Ideal for photographing in high contrast situations, the 84 x 120mm Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density 0.9 Soft-Edge Filter from Singh-Ray helps to balance exposures and produce imagery with greater highlight and shadow detail. The filter's design places the 0.9, 3-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The soft-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well-suited for photographing scenes with an uneven or indistinct horizon line, as well as when working with a wide-angle lens. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity, and is compatible with the Cokin P filter holder.

Traditional graduated neutral density places the most density at the edge of the filter and tapers to clear by the center of the filter in order to accommodate photographing scenes with large bright areas, such as a daytime sky.
Soft-edge transition between density and clear portions of the filter is suitable for photographing scenes with an indistinct or uneven horizon or line between light and shadow, and is also best-suited for use with a wide-angle lens.
Neutral density 0.9 provides a 3 stop reduction in light in selective areas.
Constructed from optical resin for overall clarity and durability.
Compatible for use with the Cokin P filter holder.
Included filter pouch protects the filter when not in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply perfect! Singh-Ray filters always get high reviews, and now I know why. I hesitated before I bought this because of the high price tag. I finally decided to pull the trigger, and I am glad I did. This filter is incredible! It does an excellent job balancing the high dynamic range that my digital camera could not otherwise capture. Take care with these resin filters as they scratch rather easily. As long as you do that, you won't be disappointed with the neutral density and optical clarity of these filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sometimes a filter is the way to go While I use PS blending techniques to extend the dynamic range of my photographs, there are times when I want to use a filter. Used properly (use depth of field preview button to confirm placement of filter, etc.), a ND filter still is a needed item in my book. Post process time is reduced ; getting close to what they eye sees in-camera and in the field mean more time for shooting and less time behind the computer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice, but not great. I purchased the 1, 2 & 3 stop filters. I have only tried them a few times, for sunrise and sunset pictures. They are nice but have not made the sunset/sunrise pop, while still allowing the foreground to show good detail like I had hoped. My cheaper Grad ND's function just about as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes the job easier and more beautiful! My first time to use GND filter. I usually post process my photos in Photoshop for several minutes or hours. With the Galen Rowell GND Filter by Singh-Ray, my photos look more beautiful and perfect the way I wanted them to be! No more wasting a lot of time post processing the photos. More productive workflow! I use the filter with the Cokin P Filter Holder and I can rotate the filter when the horizon isn't flat or uneven. It just takes a little pratice to use this filter and it's easy to use. I also use it with the LB Polarizer Filter most of the time especially whenever there's glare from water, road or any surfaces with glare. It's also fun to stack another filter/s using the Cokin P Holder, you can discover more techniques resulting in much more stunning photos. This filter is quite pricey but it's worth it. I didn't throw away the pieces of paper that was wrapped with it inside the leather packet (storage case) to protect it from fingerprints and from scratch whenever sliding it back and out of the case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Promising I must build more experience but i do not see a color cast. 3 stops isn't that huge and this might not totally suffice, but it gives you already an advantage by lessening the depth of post processing on highlight and shadows, and probably thus raiding the keepers and lowering the need for extreme settings that typically look bad, raise the noise, cooks the colors etc. Also another thing is that the gradation is smooth in terms of transition, but remains a straight line across and with uneven horizons you;ll have some brushing to do in post if the line gets visible on your subject (like a clear object higher than the horizon, will get its upper part darker). used with a Cockin filter holder, no problems. This filter feel solid, looks good, and comes in a very nice felt-lined pouch with closing flap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE the ND I used the 3-stop ND filter days after receiving it under difficult sky conditions. The background foggy mountains were way off in the distance and very washed out. The foreground was perfectly lit and idea shooting conditions. With the ND filter I was able to bring the mountains out and leave the foreground untouched. Normally this would have been done in PS with 2 differently exposed images. This made for an easier more pleasing image.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What I've been looking for I've been looking for a high quality 3-stop grad ND filter, but couldn't find one locally. The ones I've been using unfortunately come out with a magenta color, as they're not truly a neutral gray. I used this one for the first time this past weekend, and could tell a huge difference with the first snap of the cable release. It's already made a huge difference in the quality of my images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing filters! I purchased the 2-Stop and 3-Stop filters based upon a pro photographers recommendation and I couldn't be happier. I never knew these existed and I can't believe the difference they have made in landscape photographs where there background it brighter than the foreground. Also...they work resonably well as reverse graduated ND filters if you flip them upside down!
