Behringer MIC2200 Overview

  • 1Description

In today's digital world the classic tube sound is experiencing a renaissance. In reaction to this demand, Behringer has integrated a 12AX7 vacuum tube into the Behringer ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200 2-Channel Tube Microphone Preamplifier/Line Driver/DI Box.

The low-noise 2-channel microphone/line preamp provides detail, and lends the warm tube sound to instrumental and vocal recordings.

The unit also offers a high-pass filter, with a sweepable range from 15 to 320 Hz, useful for removing rumble and low frequency handling noise, and a parametric EQ with adjustable center frequency, bandwidth and amplitude. Frequency switching allows the user to sweep the entire frequency range from 10 Hz to 20 kHz. The ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200 can also function as DI box, converting unbalanced instrument signals into clean, balanced signals.

In addition to providing a soft mute function for the +48V phantom power, the ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200 provides excellent service when a need occurs to convert home-recording levels, -10 dBV, to +4 dBu level, for interfacing into professional environments.

Extremely low-noise, dual microphone/line preamp
Integrated high-quality 12AX7 vacuum tube
Extreme bandwidth from 10 Hz to 200 kHz for open, transparent sound

    Behringer MIC2200 Reviews

    ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200 2-Channel Tube Microphone Preamplifier/Line Driver/DI Box is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For DIY Subwoofer Use I use the MIC2200 in a home theater environment to provide a consumer (Onkyo AVR) to pro (Behringer EP2500) interface. The EP2500 powers my subwoofer (2 - 15 TC-1000's in a sealed enclosure). It does a great job providing signal boost (if needed) and simple eq, and is a wide frequency response / low distortion unit. If you are running a single channel subwoofer (most do) you can route channel 1 output to channel 2 input (or vice-versa) to provide two separate eq bands. Has a defeatable hpf if you are using a vented or passive radiator enclosure (a must-have). Has a wide range of control over the frequency spectrum for various eq needs. Controls are detented and have a quality feel, absolutely no complaints for this price, simplicity at its finest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice enexpensive gear I use this preamp to add a touch tube warmth to my DAW. I really like the new hybrid type of gear that is coming out lately. It is the best of both worlds. For instance, the clarity of transistors and the warmth from even harmonics of vacuum tubes. The Utragain Pro 2200 is a nice affordable way incorporate this into any rig. I also really like the versatility of this box. It can act as a transition between two pieces of gear that op at different signal levels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost Indescribable, Must Experience!!! For any guitatist seeking headphone ready tone, I have 2 Ultra G's (stereo) This is the PERFECT MATCH!!! The phantom power drives both of them, and puts the tube in the mix as well, OH YEAH!!! The mic inputs (XLR) and line inputs (TRS) are wired separately (swithchable ((per channel))) there is only phantom power available through the mic input, as well as input gain, which isn't needed as you can control the input gain with the component that you would be running through it, (think stereo) (volume) The outputs are wired parallel (left and right are wired seperate) so when my rig isn't fired up, I swithch it to line and run my laptop signal through it for complete audio bliss!!! I dont even use any of the tweekables, this thing is a Jewel!!! Get one while they're still in production!!! Unbelievable!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from way better than no pre-amp I bought the tascam t-180 large diaphragm condenser mic to accompany this item, as most of these type of mics at this price range need a boost to get a good hot signal. I am pleased with the overall purchase, good warm tone, dual channels, and a nice eq feature. The knobs are detented nicely, and the overall build of the unit seems sturdy. I have used it in the signal chain for recording v/o, acoustic guitar and a 62 piece orchestra, and noticed a marked improvement in all scenarios. The unit, however, took some experimenting to find a good output/input ratio without increasing noise floor too much. I have yet to use it on a line level, or experiment with the eq much, but im sure the di feature will come in handy eventually. 48v soft mute is a nice feature to avoid signal spikes, and there is a bypass for a/b-ing to see if your improving or mucking up. In the past i have used the single channel preamps by Art, and i can say they are comprable. I am happy with my purchase so far, the behringer line has improved much, and i plan to buy more of their gear through b and h. i placed my order on the weekend, and got it in florida thursday evening.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh The first thing I did after opening the Ultragain preamp was plug in a dynamic vocal microphone into channel one, with balanced output going to a 16ch Mixer I use regularly (channel gain set below 12oclock). Monitoring with headphones from the mix (Headphone output set at 12oclock), I played with the gain and EQ settings. I couldn't eliminate a buzz I was getting. I switched my cables over to channel 2 and it was much better so I knew channel 1 had issues (though at high output it was still noisy, not extremely low noise as advertised). The EQ on either channel seemed to add some noticeable noise at outputs starting at +8db, but even with it off I couldn't get the clean signal I expected. With my microphone directly into the mixer I only have noticeable noise (hiss) at fairly high gain levels. I plugged a bass guitar into channel 1, same output to same mixer. Got same noise issues and especially noticeable artifacts when EQ was engaged no matter what center frequency or Q. Again, channel 2 was better but not amazing. I returned my product and plan to look into a more expensive unit. However I really do like the design and the parametric equalizer that is built it. I also enjoyed the tone I was able to dial in with to my bass guitar (in channel 2). Was able to add some clean punch at 400hz. If only the signal was cleaner for me I would have been really happy with the product.
