DJI RC Pro Remote Controller Overview

Pilot your drone with the RC Pro Remote Controller from DJI and enjoy an all-in-one solution that offers customization and expandability to suit your flying style. With the RC Pro, you can leave your phone in your pocket, as it sports a built-in 5.5" 1080p 10-point touchscreen made to work perfectly with the live streaming abilities of select DJI drones. The display is optimized for outdoor viewing, but an Outdoor mode can be engaged to automatically adjust itself for use in conditions up to and including direct sunlight.

As you receive the live stream from the drone, you can use the Mini HDMI connection to output the footage to an optional monitor, letting the rest of your crew follow along. Additional functionality includes a 2.4/5.8 GHz dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) network connection with 2 x 2 MIMO for accessing the internet with the built-in browser. Install third-party apps that way, or you can side-load your own APK. DJI RC Pro Remote Controller Reviews

Bought with Mavic 3 Cine, log out issues are for real

As the other user stated below, the auto log out issues are real and a serious impediment to being productive on jobs or outings in areas with no wifi or cell service. I bought my Mavic 3 Cine with the RC Pro in August of last year from B&H. I took the kit to Iceland where it was simply fantastic. Once I returned there was an update for the drone and remote. So I read the description and decided it was worth it and did the update. When I restarted I had to log back into DJI via the app on the remote, no big deal, right? Wrong. No matter how often you fly or if you fly not at all, after one month, the app logs you out. There was no heads up from DJI about this, there is no schedule you can follow, no on screen warning you can set, nothing. I have done tests with other DJI drones that can use this controller and the regular DJI RC Remote does not pull this stunt with my Mavic 3 Cine, Mavic 3 Pro or Mini 3 Pro, it simply fires up and you are off and running. A user on the DJI boards has said that his Air 2 using the RC Pro also logs him out. For those of us who work professionally in remote areas like the Arctic, Greenland, South America, etc where great drones like the new Mavic 3 Pro are amazing tools, this is a serious show stopper. Even for people working in not so remote areas the notion of potentially having your drone be majorly handicapped until you can log in somehow takes the "Pro" aspect of this RC right out of the equation. I really hope DJI is working on a fix, because of this, the regular RC Remote is more of a Pro option than this one is.

Wonderful piece of Equipment

The DJI RC Pro is made very well and has a good weight to it. The screen is very bright for daytime use. The only thing I don't like about it is its battery life. I feel I'm always charging it.

Beware...DJI can turn your controller into a useless brick

There is a little-known feature in DJI's newer apps that automatically logs you out of your DJI account after a specified amount of time and renders the controller and drone useless. Yesterday when I was on a remote job site, I fired up the the RC Pro Remote only to have the app inform me that I was logged out of my account and needed to log back in. I was far from cellular access. There is nothing about this in any of the descriptions of the product or in the manuals. But after posting the experience in DJIForum, I was informed by a DJI employee that the app automatically logs you out after 3 months for security reasons. I received the Mavic 3 and RC Pro Remote less than 3 months ago. I simply do not understand the reason behind the requirement to be logged into a DJI account to fly the drone. It had just been used on a job a few days prior and there was absolutely no warning in the app about the impending auto-logout. Without being logged in, the app limited my flights to a max of 30 meters elevation and 50 meters distance. I spent 30 minutes trying, in vain, to figure out a work-around. Consequently, I lost the best lighting on a 2000-foot cliff behind the property I was hired to shoot. Aside from yesterday's costly disaster, I really like the RC Pro Remote. While the display is still a bit small, it is bright enough to be useful on a sunny day.

The Right Choice for Serious Flying

I originally intended to save the money and use my iPhone 14Pro attached to the standard controller. I quickly realized that between texts, notifications, Ring Camera alerts, and other on screen distractions that I should bite the bullet and purchase a completely separate dedicated controller. It was the right decision. I would encourage anyone who is going to spend considerable time flying but is considering using an active phone (it is also my business phone) for the screen display, to carefully consider the options. Because it was a business purchase it made a lot of sense for me to separate the phone from the controller.

Is the Pro Remote Controller worth the money

I used first the controller that came with the Mavic 3 which uses the phone as a display. Didn't like it. I had the old controller for the Mavic Pro Hasselblad and decided that why buy equipment twice for the $300.00 model controller when the Pro Controller has more functions and a brighter screen.

Was able to buy a second one

I had one of these controllers from when I purchased an Air 2s fly more combo. It is great for daylight, easy to turn right on and use. I have since purchased a Mavic 3 and wanted an additional controller.

Perks

Expensive! But I really do like this compared to using my phone or iPad. The extra definable buttons are very convenient to me. The display is very nice and I've had no problems seeing it in sunlight (In N.C.). I did buy an Akwox glass screen protector and it fits perfectly.

How does this compare with the RC remote that comes with the Mavic 3 Classic for $1749? What would I gain with this remote?
Asked by: Cindy
The DJI RC Pro and DJI RC controller are fairly similar, but the Pro model will allow users access to third-party applications while DJI RC does not support third-party applications. The DJI RC will have a screen brightness of 700 nits without an HDMI out, compared to the brighter 1000 nits of the RC Pro and will provide an HDMI out.
