SLR Magic Cine 50mm f/1.1 FE Overview

The SLR Magic Cine 50mm f/1.1 Lens supports cine-style shooting on Fuji X Mount cameras. It weighs less than a pound and covers full-frame sensors with a fast f/1.1 maximum aperture for shallow depth of field. It features geared focus and aperture rings, a clickless iris that allows smooth aperture pulls, and a 13-bladed iris for a rounded aperture and smooth bokeh when stopped down.

The lens is suitable for portrait, interiors, architectural, and landscape cinematography and photography. The front of the lens does not rotate as you focus; this allows you to use optional polarizing filters or accessories such as clip-on matte boxes. It incorporates a 52mm filter thread diameter for using a variety of readily available optional lens accessories.
Cine-Ready Optics
The lens covers full-frame sensors with a 50mm focal length. The fast f/1.1 maximum aperture provides excellent low-light performance and a shallow depth of field. The 13-blade iris delivers a rounded aperture for pleasing bokeh.
Smooth Adjustment
The clickless iris allows you to smoothly adjust your exposure during the shot. Built-in iris and focus gears follow industry standards, allowing you to work with optional follow focus units and lens gear motors.

SLR Magic Cine 50mm f/1.1 FE Reviews

A Curious Lens

I bought the nifty 50. 75mm equiv on my X-T5, of course. The build quality is very good with metal construction. Focus is a bit stiff but not overly stiff. Focus travel is a bit limited so I threw on a Tilta rubber focus ring on top of the factory one resulting in more travel and more leverage. Nice round bokeh lights. I like it and am able to get some good time practicing handheld with my follow focus without fear of damaging a Cooke.

question

can anyone compare this to the rokinon 50mm cine ds? how is image quality/color?
Asked by: kay
I would say sharpness/image quality of the two lenses are comparable. Both do a good job for the price. Rokinon 50mm I find to be fairly neutral in color and slightly low contrast. SLR magic I find to be very neutral in color as well.

question

Is there a way to loosen the focusing ring slightly? (My came VERY right, i have to grip it with my whole hand to turn it)
Asked by: Elvin
There is no way that we are aware of to loosen or tighten the focusing ring. It should gradually loosen up as you use it, but if you feel it is too tight and defective please reach out to us at [email protected] for further assistance.

question

What is the T Stop value of this lens? It's probably a T/1.4 But it'd be useful to know it from someone who compared or tested it.
Asked by: Jairo N.
SLR Magic decided to release a cine lens with f/stops instead of the cine standard of T-stops so this question comes up. Since T-stops are always less than f/stops, I would go with the thought that the T-stop is in the neighborhood of T 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4. The only way to actually know is for lens service technician to test it.
