Atomos Ninja V+ 5.2" 8K HDMI H.265 Raw Recording Monitor
If you're shooting with an 8K camera, then why not record in 8K raw format using the Ninja V+ 5.2" 8K HDMI H.265 Raw Recording Monitor from Atomos. The Ninja V+ is the same on-camera monitor/recorder as its predecessor the Ninja V 5", but the Ninja+ now features a 5.2" display and records and plays back up to 8K30 raw video to and from purpose-built mini-SSDs.

The Ninja V+ can record Apple ProRes RAW up to 8K30 or DCI 4K120 directly from the sensor, and it is compatible with an array of cameras. Display features include a 10-bit screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m² AtomHDR technology for accurate monitoring of your log gamma footage and support for popular log formats from Sony, Canon, JVC, Panasonic, Nikon, RED, Sony, and Z CAM cameras.

Durable, Expandable Design
Built to withstand the rigors of production, the Ninja V+ features an aluminum chassis and powers from a single L-series battery. Additional features include a variety of on-screen exposure analysis, framing, anamorphic de-squeeze, and focus assist tools. Separately available AtomX SDI, AtomX SYNC, CONNECT 4K modules, and an SDI raw license key further expand your Ninja V+ capabilities. Firmware update 10.81.00 supports faster Sony and Nextorage drive detection and optimizes audio while livestreaming, and when used with the optional CONNECT unit, it offers access to powerful cloud-based services.
Firmware Update 10.81.00
When combined with the optional CONNECT module, the 10.81.00 firmware update offers:

  • Access to an array of new cloud-based video production services
  • FRAME.IO camera to cloud (C2C) ability to simultaneously record both high-quality hero and efficient proxy files with matching filenames and timecode

Bug fixes:

  • Faster Sony and Nextorage SSDmini drive detection
  • Optimized audio when livestreaming
8K Raw HDR Monitor/Recorder
The Atomos Silicon chip, AtomIC3, AtomOS 10, and efficient Apple ProRes RAW work together to deliver up to 8K30 and 4K120 continuous ProRes RAW recording while maintaining the HDR, 4K60 raw, and 1080p120 slow-motion abilities of the Ninja V.
5" Daylight Viewable Screen
The Ninja V+ features a 5.2" IPS LCD screen illuminated by a bright 1000 cd/m² LED backlight, making it possible to view in daylight without requiring a hood. Plus, the screen is also color-calibrated from the factory to ensure accurate image representation.
Recording Codecs Including Raw over HDMI

Atomos Ninja V+ Reviews

No Input all the time!

By Arina

I bought this item on March 31st 2023, and tried to used it in April after it arrived, but it didn't work with Kondor Blue/ Undone full HDMI from my Sony a7SIII. I tried with my other HDMI cable and it keeps jumping back and forth from working and No Input. I have never had any problems with my previous Feel World monitor with both full hdmi cables. I bought the Atomos Ninja V+ so I also could record externally and in Apple ProRes. And now it's too late to return it or replace it as I also was very busy that period. It also starts to heat up very quickly, after like 5-10 minutes. I hope I can return it to Atomos directly as it's too late to return it to B&H.

so far so good

This monitor is of very good quality. Very easy to use, the SmallRig cage and an AtomX SSD (or other) are essential.

Full 8K recording only with Canon R5

I read the performance and recording options for the Ninja V+ and bought it with the expectation that these would work with my Nikon Z9 camera. Later I found that the full output rates via HDMI only works with the Canon R5 , a couple other Canon camcorders, and a Fuji MFT camera. As 8K performance is throttled with the Z9 camera I will go back to shooting 4K 60p with my Shogun Inferno and return the Ninja V+.

Absolutely love it, needs NVME

I love the Atomos Ninja V but not sure why this hasn't been redesigned to support an NVME.

Im a little hot and cold with this. I got it to use with my Canon R5, and while it works well, there are a lot of little things that annoy me. First, no 4K120... If it can do 8KRAW, you would really think they could do 4K120. Next, if you want the footage to record ONLY to the Ninja, and not to the internal card also, you need to be shooting in RAW. Any other codec, and it records simultaneously to the NINJA + Internal card. Which kind of defeats the purpose... The files out of it are great, and when you need to be shooting RAW, it works phenomenal. But if your just shooting PRORES, I find it hard to justify the price (Which isn't bad, but you will need batteries, hard drives, mounts, cables, maybe a cage for your camera...)

So far OK

So far it seems to be working as expected. I ordered it and it came with a little scratch on the screen outside of the viewing area. I thought no big deal but I wanted to be perfect. I also noticed that the box didn't have a plastic wrap. So I sent it back because I thought it was a returned item. The other one they sent me didn't have a plastic wrap either and it has an even smaller scratch. It looks like it's from the manufacturer. I kept it. It's no big deal but if anyone is buying one and notices the same then don't be alarmed. Everything works on mine. Only problem is that Atomos Ninja V doesn't allow ProRes Raw from my Nikon Z9 yet. Hopefully there will be a firmware upgrade to allow this.

This is more of a follow up question than an answer, but can you set the Ninja V+ to record Prores HQ or LT instead of a raw file using the raw signal from the FS5ii? Raw is overkill for me, but 4k 10bit 422 from the FS5ii would be great.
