Lightweight, nimble, and fast, the NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 is the sleekest f/2.8 zoom for FX-format cameras Nikon has ever produced. Spanning a wide-angle to portrait-length range and featuring a bright design that excels in low-light and for controlling depth of field, this lens is all about versatility in a compact package.

Optics

  • Covering wide-angle to short-telephoto focal lengths, this lens is ideal for a variety of shooting situations, including landscape, street, portraiture, documentary, and travel applications.
  • Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in available lighting conditions and offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus effects.
  • One Super ED element and one extra-low dispersion element greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.
  • Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Autofocus

  • Stepping motor maintains quick and quiet autofocus performance that's ideal for both photo and video needs.
  • An internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 7.5" benefits working with close-up subjects.
  • Focus breathing has been suppressed to benefit video use and maintain a consistent field of view when changing focus.

Physical Design

  • Impressively compact and lightweight design for an f/2.8 standard zoom, this lens measures just 4.8" long when retracted and weighs 30% less than the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens.
  • Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
  • Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions. There is also an antifouling coating on the front of the lens that resists smudging, fingerprints, and dirt and is easy to clean.

I'm very happy with this lens. Very crisp photos, with super detail. I bought this lens for a trip to Ireland and now I can't wait to shoot photos with it.

This is the perfect, all-around lens for the Z-family of products. Fast enough for all types of shooting, but doesn't break the bank.

I used it for the first time yesterday at my Grandchildren's birthday party. Photos were sharp and clear as was the video I took. Having owned the 24-70 f4 I would rate this as about the same sharpness with an additional stop of light if you need it.

The Nikkor 28-75mm f/2.8 is a crisp and fast lens that does not weigh a lot. I am using it to replace my F mount 2/8 which I love but is not native to the Z cameras I use now and is a pretty hefty lens. It is well built and the weather sealing seems to be well done. I may invest in the more expensive 24-70 at some point, but for less that half the cost this is a good value that takes great photos.

Is this a good camera for weddings and events? Or is the 24-120 better?
Asked by: Hagit
Both the Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 and the 24-120mm f/4 S are great lenses for events and weddings. The 28-75mm f/2.8 has the advantage of a larger aperture for low light performance and a shallower depth of field, while the 24-120mm has a wider angle of view as well as a longer reach. Your style of shooting will help determine which suits you better!

For use on a Z50, since the Z50 is not full frame, how will that effect the actual functionality of the lens? Effective focal-length? F-stop?
Asked by: David
There is no built in VR in the lens so you won't get VR on a Z50 which relies on lenses that have built in VR. But on the plus side you get an effective focal length of 42 - 112.5 mm making it a mild telephoto lens.

What about the quality difference 24-70 2.8S?

What about the quality difference 24-70 2.8S?
Asked by: Temuulen
Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens BH #NI287528N delivers impressively sharp images at all ranges. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Lens BH #NIZ247028 produces sharper images but the difference is extremely little. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens is not as quiet as the 24-70mm f/2.8 S, but it is still better and faster than the f/4 lens and many other comparable lenses we at B&H have tested. Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens can even focus at a closer distance (0.62 feet or 7.5 inches) vs. the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Lens BH #NIZ247028. The vignetting and falloff in the corners are noticeable on both wide and zoomed focal lengths but this can be easily corrected with the camera's vignetting compensation.
