Is this a good camera for weddings and events? Or is the 24-120 better?
Both the Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 and the 24-120mm f/4 S are great lenses for events and weddings. The 28-75mm f/2.8 has the advantage of a larger aperture for low light performance and a shallower depth of field, while the 24-120mm has a wider angle of view as well as a longer reach. Your style of shooting will help determine which suits you better!

It doesn't appear to have the MF/AF switch on the lens. For manual focus do you just use the menu switch for it?
That is correct. On Nikon Z-mount lenses without a AF/MF switch you can turn auto focus off under the camera focus mode menu.

For use on a Z50, since the Z50 is not full frame, how will that effect the actual functionality of the lens? Effective focal-length? F-stop?
There is no built in VR in the lens so you won't get VR on a Z50 which relies on lenses that have built in VR. But on the plus side you get an effective focal length of 42 - 112.5 mm making it a mild telephoto lens.

What about the quality difference 24-70 2.8S?
What about the quality difference 24-70 2.8S?
Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens BH #NI287528N delivers impressively sharp images at all ranges. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Lens BH #NIZ247028 produces sharper images but the difference is extremely little.
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens is not as quiet as the 24-70mm f/2.8 S, but it is still better and faster than the f/4 lens and many other comparable lenses we at B&H have tested. Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens can even focus at a closer distance (0.62 feet or 7.5 inches) vs. the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Lens BH #NIZ247028. The vignetting and falloff in the corners are noticeable on both wide and zoomed focal lengths but this can be easily corrected with the camera's vignetting compensation.
