Teris JQ40-III Reviews

I really wanted to like it!

After much anticipation, I got my hands on this camera jib and, regrettably, I was met with a series of disappointments. Here are the challenges I faced: Stability: The jib is super unstable, which is a big concern when you're dealing with expensive camera gear. Safety Concern: Beyond the potential to damage expensive equipment, there's the very real danger that if the jib breaks, it could cause harm to anyone standing below. Safety should always be paramount and this raises serious concerns. Tripod Requirement: The jib necessitates a super heavy-duty tripod, which isn't ideal for portability. Price: There's an identical crane available from Proaim for just $350. Tension Cable: When tightening the tension cable, there's an unsettling creaking sound as if it's on the brink of snapping. Material Quality: The carbon fiber stick holding the tension cable alarmingly bends, creating the impression it might snap anytime. It's essential to note that carbon fiber doesn't bend but cracks, and if it snaps, you risk damaging all your gear. Gimbal Limitations: Due to the gimbal's design, lifting the jib higher restricts you to a 90-degree radius. Lowering it expands to a 180-degree radius but this isn’t the ideal flexibility one would expect. Weight Bar Design: A vertical bar to hold the weights would have been more ergonomic. It could accommodate the handle, enabling better maneuverability. I contemplated making this adjustment myself, but unfortunately, all the bolts on the jib are stripped, making modifications impossible. Monitor Mounting: The screen can only be mounted on the crane. Consequently, as the crane moves up, the monitor tilts down and vice versa, making it difficult to maintain a clear view. Case Design: Unfortunately, the case accommodates the jib without the clamps. Keeping them on would save much time during setup. Balance Issues: It’s practically impossible to achieve perfect balance due to its design. The jib’s rotation on the tripod head changes the center of balance as it rotates. Most jibs rotate at the pole's center, maintaining balance irrespective of its position. This jib only balances at one specific point. Incompatibility with RS3 & RS2: Achieving smooth shots is a herculean task. There's a constant struggle between turning the jib and countering with the joystick. The speed inconsistency throughout the movement negates the possibility of a smooth shot. Tweaking the headband does help slightly but doesn't completely rectify the issue. Purchasing and Reviews: I've noticed there's only one other review available, and it's quite possible that not many people have purchased this jib. That single review seems questionable as it lacks detail. It's a red flag when a product has limited feedback, and potential buyers should approach with caution. I truly wanted to appreciate this crane. Despite its balance challenges, I was prepared to compromise due to the swift setup time. However, the overarching issue is the difficulty in attaining quality shots, which is paramount. I currently use the Proam Orion 12ft jib, and in light of the aforementioned concerns, I'll be sticking to it.

Can't believe the weight!
