Capture high-quality, low-noise recordings from your favorite XLR microphone directly to your Canon camera with the TASCAM CA-XLR2d-C XLR Microphone Adapter Kit for Cameras. This version includes an accessory shoe that takes advantage of Canon's multi-accessory shoe to provide a cable-free digital audio connection to the camera—avoiding any deterioration in sound quality and eliminating the work of synchronizing images and sound in postproduction.

The accessory shoe also allows the camera to supply the adapter with power for the analog-to-digital converter and the 48V phantom power needed for condenser microphones. Two AA batteries will also power the unit, and the 3.5mm output jack will connect to just about any camera's 3.5mm audio input, using the supplied cable; meaning the CA-XLR2d-C can work as an analog audio adapter with a wide variety of mirrorless/DSLR cameras. The audio output can also serve as a headphone jack for real-time monitoring in the field.

Select the Best Microphone for Your Application
Choose the appropriate microphone or input that matches your application. From a single shotgun mic for interviews or dialog to dual dynamic or condenser mics for stereo imaging or the entire audio mix fed from the master mixer, using the line-level capability, the CA-XLR2d-C supports a wide variety of shooting applications.
HDDA Mic Preamplifier for High Sound Quality with Low Noise & Wide Dynamic Range
The CA-XLR2d-C is equipped with a high-definition discrete-architecture microphone preamplifier that can process anything from room tone to explosions, making it well suited to a wide range of sets and environments. Each input supports microphone/line-level switching and a +48V phantom power supply. The CA-XLR2d-C allows input of dynamic microphones, condenser microphones, and line-level audio signals from a mixer.
Designed for a High Degree of Freedom
A cold shoe on the top panel expands setting flexibility. The shockmount mechanism is vibration and noise resistant and allows you to connect various microphones. With two combo XLR-1/4" input connectors and one 3.5mm stereo mini microphone input jack, the CA-XLR2d-C has the flexibility to adapt to the gear necessary for the job and work in a wide variety of shooting scenarios. A 3.5mm output terminal with headphone mode provides latency-free direct monitoring or analog camera connection.
Built-In Processing with User-Friendly Control for Clean and Clear Recordings
Internal processing options such as Auto Level, a Low-Cut Filter, and a Limiter are on board, all using convenient switches. The 1+2 LINK function allows you to adjust the L/R volume simultaneously when recording in stereo. The unit supports 16/24-bit rates and 48/96 kHz sampling rates.
Canon Digital Interface Kit
TASCAM has collaborated with Canon to create an in-camera recording solution for XLR mics using the multi-accessory shoe connection. This provides a cable-free digital audio transmission directly into the camera along with a buss power supply from the camera to create an efficient and highly mobile solution.

Digital product compatibility includes:

  • Canon cameras: EOS R3, EOS R5 C, EOS R7, and XF605 are supported with powering from the camera. For the EOS R10, the audio connection is supported, but from-camera powering is not.

For analog setups, use the included 2 x AA battery box, cold shoe mount, and adapter cable, which connects the CA-XLR2d's 3.5mm output to a camera's 3.5mm mic input jack. This allows the CA-XLR2d-C to work as an analog audio adapter and deliver high-quality sound from XLR mics to a wide range of existing camera users.

Analog product compatibility includes:

  • Nikon mirrorless cameras:  Z 9, Z 7II, Z 6II, Z 7, Z 6, Z 5, Z fc, and Z 50
  • Nikon digital SLR cameras: D6, D780, D850, D7500, and D500
  • Numerous mirrorless/DSLR cameras with shoe mounts and 3.5mm external audio input jacks

A very unreliable, poor product

We bought it for Canon R5 C. It does not work. The adapter does not get power from the camera and does not work with batteries. When connected to the camera, the yellow light with the camera symbol lights up for a short time, but then turns off after a few seconds. The camera displays the error message below: Currently, the accessory cannot be used Tried everything firmware update, reboot, etc., but no results. Unfortunately, all this happens at the beginning of a shoot in a foreign country. A very unreliable, poor product. Avoid it.

Stopped Working After First Use

The unit worked the first time I used it with my R3. The second and every subsequent time, my camera displayed an error message upon connecting. Tascam has not yet helped, other than stating, it might be an internal issue that requires servicing from Tascam. Save yourself the headache and find another solution.

Other reviews show this unit fails after a few uses. My experience was the same. Failed after 5 uses. Sent to a third-party repair center (there is no corporate one) in September 2022 and just found out that they will repair it maybe by May of 2023. Been back to using my Beachtek which I've had for 7 years and it still works great.

Stopped working after third use

I purchased this from B&H the day it was announced. I was happy to be able to mix 4 channel audio on my XF605. However, the third time I used it, it died on me during a shoot with a client. I just get a warning that says cannot use accessory and that's it.

Works great with my R7!

I have a number of Tascam products (numerous DR-10L's, even an original DR-40 handheld) and have always been impressed by the audio quality. This item is no exception...It works perfectly with my R7 and has allowed me to use both a wireless mic and an MKE-600 shotgun (the unit does provide Phantom, but I am using the battery in the microphone). The unit is a bit on the clunky side, and in some ways, I may have preferred micro-XLR inputs to save space, but I do like the dual Neutrik inputs, so I guess it's a tradeoff. All in all, very pleased.

Great for in camera audio recording

Sometimes I like to just get the audio recorded in camera rather than dealing with syncing audio from a dedicated recorder. This solves that issue.

When using it with the battery adapter and 3.5mm without connecting to the shoe how do you get the adapter to power up? There is no power switch and appears to be controlled by the shoe.
Asked by: Dion
The Tascam CA-XLR2d-C XLR Microphone Adapter Kit for Canon Cameras has a dedicated "Battery Powered" switch which can be set to "On" when powering the unit with batteries instead of through a shoe connection.

You would need to run a splitter cable from the output of the Rode Wireless Go II receiver into the XLR mic inputs on the Tascam CA-XLR2d-C like BH #KOSMYCM2XM03

Yes, the Tascam CA-XLR2d-C XLR Microphone Adapter Kit for Canon Cameras can be used in a more common, analog camera input, cold shoe-mounted scenario, in addition to its functionality as an interface for the multi-accessory shoe on specific Canon cameras.

Should there be any concern that the bulk and weight of this XLR unit will torque and damage the R5C hot shoe mounting when moving the camera in different positions? In situations where I may collect hand-held b-roll, I would worry that sudden motions or holding the camera horizontally (for example) could put excessive stress on the hot shoe. It's too bad they don't offer a hot shoe module with a cable going to a remote hot shoe module so that you can mount this XLR adapter to a cage and maintain a digital interface. SONY does make a cable (I believe) that comes with their XLR adapter for this purpose. I would hate to use the 3.5mm cable for remote mounting. This will downgrade the audio quality.
Asked by: Stewart
I think with any XLR adapter or Flash mounted in the shoe you must be careful with it. However, The Tascam CA-XLR2d-C is the XLR adapter officially recommended by Canon for the R5C. When used with the Canon R5C is will be cable-free.
