As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.
Wide-angle prime is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 24mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field for achieving selective focus effects.
Two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and three F Low Dispersion (FLD) elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity and color accuracy.
Two aspherical elements are used to limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
A stepping AF motor benefits both photographers and videographers with its fast, precise, and near-silent performance.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.

Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Reviews

Great, if your get a good one

This lens is quite sharp, focus is fast, weight is to be expected on a f/1.4 wide angle. And the price is a steal. I have a long (40+) year history with Sigma products and one thing that hasn't gotten much better is their quality control and consistency. The first one of these lenses I got could not focus on anything. It thought it was in focus, but not even close. The second lens nailed focus. It's a tiny bit less sharp in one corner, but only on close examination. It's worth noting I'm using a m43 camera; on a APS camera, a soft corner would be more noticeable since you're using more of the image circle on the larger APS sensor. All in all, I recommend this lens, but do check yours. It's Sigma, not Zeiss, so trust but verify.

Close Up Focus

I like how the background is blurred out which keeps the close up subject clear and sharp for recording.I love it. I think it's very useful. However, distance focus has its readjustment issues for keeping the subject focus and intact from a far distance camera capture.

A Major Game Changer

I purchased this lens as an upgrade to my standard kit lens and the quality is incredible. My video is crisp, I can see the fine details of my hairs and the differen't things in my shot, I can see that beautiful bokeh effect in the background of all shots- I adore this lens.

Image is doubled at wide open

Normally a bit softness of the image away from image center is expected at wide open for a fast lens, but this lens shows more than just softness. The image away from the center is doubled. I bought this mainly for astrophotography, as you can imagine, having the stars doubled is the last thing I want in my photos. Visible CA all the way to f/8. In fact I didn't even bother testing anything beyond f/8 as I was already extremely disappointed. CA was corrected by software as it disappears in jpeg, nothing can correct the doubled image though.

Very sharp and decent focus speed on my Fuji xt3

It does well what I need it to do.

I bought the lens for indoors event photography when the lighting is somewhat dim but I don't want to use flash. M43 cameras are not at their best under those conditions. I use post-processing to help compensate for issues with high ISO and slow shutter, but the extra two stops with this lens (vs my f/2.8 12-40mm zoom lens) are really useful. I haven't done any extensive analysis of image sharpness with the lens, but it's certainly adequate for my purposes.

Not really, this is a lens for cropped sensors and will reduce the resolution by about 40%. If you are searching Sigma lenses, make sure they have a DG designation instead of a DC designation.

The Canon EOS R is dual mode where the camera can be set to crop mode (APS-C), one should still get 16mm via the EOS R adapters no? (looks like some people don't know the EOS R can go crop-mode and are giving wrong answers).
Asked by: David
I don't think that there is an adapter that allows an M-mount lens to be mounted on an R-mount camera. The sensor-to-flange distance for the two mounts are too similar to fabricate one. Other than that, it should work. The lens communicates with the body like an EF lens and has the coverage for an APS-C sensor.

question

What are the physical dimensions of the lens with the hood attached? I have ordered the lens and looking to get a lens case that fits the lens with the hood on. Thanks
Asked by: Theekshana A.
The lens by itself is approximately 2.84 x 3.63 / 72.2 x 92.3 mm. The hood adds about 2.41 /61.21mm for a total of 5.24 /133.3mm.
