No, you don't need a driver for this device. It is just like an extension cable. It just changes the shape of the connector, therefore it is different from a USB hub, that you may need a driver, although USB hub is good with a system's built-in driver usually. You might need a driver for a device connected at the end of this cable, but not for this cable itself. I've been using this cable for about a year, and it is working perfectly.

Will this work with the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar?
I can confirm this works on my 2017 MBP with Touch Bar as I'm currently typing this out on it right now. Make sure you have a good HDMI cable for 4k though, the first cable I tried would only give me 1080p, the second one gave full 4k though.

No. To the best of my knowledge the LG G5 has a Micro USB and not a USB Type C.Micro USB to HDMI adapter should work.

Will this adapter work for connecting a Dell XPS 13 laptop to a 1920x1080 HD monitor?
To the best of my knowledge the monitor's hdmi tesolution is only related to the quality of the monitor's picture. Therefore if the XPS has a USB Type C the adapter should work.
