Venus Optics Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro... Reviews
Affordable Manual Macro
I almost purchased the Nikon Z 100mm macro but after researching macro lenses I decided to buy the Laowa at half the price. So far it has been superb. The focus ring is just stiff enough to allow precise focusing while not overly tight. Build quality is top quality and images are sharp.
Poorly made Lens
I brought this lens and owned it one day and returned it. The lens hood did not fit and would fall off because it couldn't be securely attached. Further there was no white dot indicator on the lens to line-up with the camera to attach the lens to the camera. This product was poorly made. Also, I wasn't impressed with the optics. The only reason I considered this lens is because of one person's You Tube video raving about the lens, he was totally miss leading. All the negative reviews that I read on this lens was totally correct. I would not recommend this lens.
Fantastically Unique
I needed a macro lens to shoot product photos of fishing flies. I did a lot of research and this one stood far above the rest in its price range. I can get beautiful, crisp images with this lens - the price trade off comes in with the lack of auto-focus and image stabilization. This is no problem for my needs, but will be a hurdle for anyone who needs to be able to shoot without a tripod.
great
great
Amazing for DSLR scanning
Ultra sharp and detailed lens when used to digitize film. Scans won't need sharpening if you're using good glass to shoot film. The focus throw could be a bit longer specially at 2x macro, but it's not a problem for scanning. It's also a good telephoto for portraits.
fantastic lens
fantastic lens
What is this witchcraft??
After having found my accidentally into macro photography (brought about with my Sony 100-400 on an a7rV), i did some homework and bought this 100mm Laowa. Bear in mind that i am a total macro beginner and have NEVER used a flash before and look at this shot which is 100% RAW AND UNEDITED. This lens is a winner.
Great Macro lens for the $$$
For the money this lens is pure gold. Full manual mode so you must have a basic knowledge of photography. Not weatherproof so be careful. I've seen a lot of reviews bashing this lens but I feel as if those reviews are from inexperienced photographers. If you're looking for a great Macro lens at a smaller price tag this is the ONE. Add a flash and a diffuser and BAM you will create some jaw dropping images.
