Sony Xperia 5 III Reviews

Sony Xperia 5 III Review

By Jacob

The Sony Xperia 5 III is the perfect phone for me. I love that its display is uninterrupted by a notch or punch hole. I also like that its stereo speakers are front facing. The 21:9 aspect ratio makes it narrow and easy to handle. The cameras have lots of control and modes available. Pictures are lifelike and accurate. There are plenty of focal lengths. Overall, I have really enjoyed my purchase. The mirror green is eye-catching yet classy. Sony's build quality is impeccable. Also, it has an SD card slot for expandable storage and a headphone jack. It really has it all! I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

This is a back to basics not so cheap phone. It is a really great phone. Excellent camara, phone jack, stereo speakers... Facing the person, light weight, well made, ergonomic to the hand, pocket sized.... And the thing that i like the most... Led notification. I will buy another one when the needs comes. B&H is a great experience in my purchase. Thanks.

Quirky beast of a phone

To state this right up front, this thing is just too idiosyncratic for me and I sent it back. OK. The good: the camera controls are very similar to those on a Sony camera. If you have owned a Sony camera you know how to work this pretty much right out of the box. Modern Sony camera features such as object tracking work well here, too. The camera function allows direct control over which lens you are shooting with, unlike (say) an iPhone which automatically selects a lens by criteria known only to Steve Jobs. The camera function is an interesting complement to, and in some circumstances even a replacement for, a point-and-shoot or even APS-C dedicated camera. I bought a SanDisk V30 microSD card and recorded some 4K HDR video to external storage, which works just fine. The bad: Sony apps and support are just as bad here as they are for any other Sony product which is not a TV or PS. The Imaging Edge Android app is rated only 2.2 stars on the Play Store, which is actually being kind to it. Using Imaging Edge on a Sony-brand phone does not ease the pain. I could not get Imaging Edge to pair with my Sony A7iv camera. A chat session with Sony support started with one tech who knew phones but not cameras and then bounced to a second tech who knew cameras but not phones. And so it goes. Honestly, I am too young and handsome to deal with this kind of thing. If you have a higher pain threshold and want a phone with a quite respectable Sony-esque camera with user controls, this might work for you.

I bought this phone bundled with the Sony 1000xm3 Bluetooth earbuds and call of duty mobile points. I love almost every aspect of this phone but most of all the form factor. Every person I've shown it to loves the fit of it in their hand. Look online for Sony's officially marketed case. It has a nice premium feel to it and makes the phone more grippyer and protects the lenses really well. I love the ear buds but you need to mess with the settings a bit to get them to work without getting bombarded by sound adaption notifications. If you have Verizon like I do you may have trouble recieving txts but I fixed the issue relatively easily by talking with them about activating CDMA-less for your device. I hope to continue using this phone for a very long time. It's a win for me

It's a Sony

Just got my phone earlier this month. Works very similar to my old Xperia. Just move the SIM card over and call Verizon to enable my messaging and all went smooth. I need to get a cable to go from USB-C to A so I can download pics and videos. I still need to get a lens cover but all other protectors are available. It's very intuitive and it performs as expected. I wanted a phone with a phono-jack, SD-card and stereo speakers this phone checked the boxes. I'm still playing with all the camera features. That will only take a little time to become second nature. I think it's priced right for the value. So far, no issues holding charge. 48hrs of light to medium use before it reaches 15%. I'm not a technophile, so they have a more harsh review. However, I got ~6 years out of my old Xperia. It was in horrible shape (age and abuse) at the end but it still worked. I think that's saying something about the quality from Sony.

It has all the bang of the Xperia 1iii but in a smaller, slimmer format. The camera is good. If you have a Sony shooter you will love the camera app. Headphone jack. SD Card expansion. The stereo speakers on the front are sufficient. Screen is excellent. All-day battery life. Android 12 coming soon.

Only 2 weeks in, but flawless so far

Transition from my Xperia XZ2 Compact was quick and relatively painless. There were a bunch of immediate factory and Google updates at the same time and all went smoothly. So far, the experience is an improved version of my old phone and there have been zero problems.

Overall great phone but some issues with TMO

Can't go wrong - solid battery life and decent performance. Great screen, UI pretty cool with their split screen (or is that stock Andro?). However, few flaws that prevent me from giving 5*. 1) T-mobile wifi calling not implemented. A disappointment, since previous Xperia models always did have this feature on the US network. Brief read online points to Sony USA not getting some certificate with TMO 2) I found myself turning 5G off, in my area LTE just feels faster.

When using the Cinema Pro app, you can record 4k or 2k with any lens, the 120fps is only available on certain lens and configuration when setting up a project. I actually bought one of these phones, and here's the real answer: Yes, any microSD card will fit in this camera and store data. But! When you record 4K video to a memory card, the phone will warn you, use at least a V30 speed-rated card or risk data loss. So there you have it.

It's this camera on par with an iPhone or other high-end phone camera in auto mode? I'm not a photographer and wouldn't do well with manual mode, but want a superior camera.
Asked by: Barbara
Short answer: no. Basic mode on the Xperia does not have all the computational photography smarts of an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, or Google Pixel that enhance your photos in-camera. Not even close. On the other hand, the Xperia still and video apps in their advanced modes give you much greater control over camera parameters than those other phones and can shoot RAW stills in DNG format.
