Designed for Creators
A compact design with superb optics and a power zoom function makes the Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 G an ideal choice for all types of creators, whether that means you shoot video, stills, or both. This ultra-wide lens is among the lightest in its class and the constant f/4 aperture strikes an ideal balance that is bright enough for available-light shooting while remaining portable for all-day shoots.
Optimized for Video
A perfect companion for content creators, this lens's key features are ideal for video applications, including Power Zoom, suppressed focusing breathing, and versatile focus handling, along with a well-balanced design that performs well when mounted on a gimbal or drone or used handheld:
  • The electronically controlled Power Zoom mechanism enables making smooth zooms during takes, with control possible via the lens body or from select camera bodies.
  • Power Zoom can be used in conjunction with Sony camera's Clear Image Zoom function, which can further extend the effective reach by up to 2x while maintaining near original image quality. If the lens's zoom speed is set to Slow, and the zoom control is performed remotely from the camera body, the zooming transition will be seamless from optical zoom to Clear Image Zoom.
  • Power Zoom mechanism uses four XD linear motors for precise, fast, and quiet zooming movement.
  • Internal zoom and internal focus design maintains the overall lens length during operation.
  • Aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent, and seamless iris switching during recording.
  • Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) suppresses focus breathing to help maintain compositional accuracy when changing focus. This lens is also compatible with the Breathing Compensation function in select Alpha cameras.
Optical Design
  • Wide-angle zoom design covers ultra-wide to standard wide focal lengths and a constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistency and a strong balance between brightness and a compact design.
  • Two Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements and one aspherical element help achieve high sharpness and suppress distortion and spherical aberrations.
  • Super ED and ED elements promote greater clarity and color accuracy by reducing chromatic aberrations.
  • One ED Aspherical element further contributes to impressive image quality by correcting for a variety of aberrations.
  • Special attention has been given to achieve consistent and sharp performance throughout the zoom and focus ranges for maximum versatility.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes a smooth bokeh quality.
Versatile Focusing Performance
An XD Linear Motor system uses two separate motors to provide quick, quiet, and precise autofocus and tracking performance. This design also contributes to more natural, intuitive Linear Response manual focus control and an AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel for quick focus mode switching.
  • Internal focusing design offers more responsive focusing performance and maintains a consistent overall lens length during operation.
  • Suitable for close-up shooting, the minimum focusing distance at the 16mm position is 11" and, at the 35mm position, is 9.4" with a 0.23x maximum magnification.
Portable Design, Intuitive Handling
As a G lens, this 16-35mm f/4 prioritizes compactness and sports a lightweight design while still managing impressive optical performance and notable f/4 constant maximum aperture. The lens is also weather-sealed and features an intuitive design for easy operability, making it a versatile wide-angle go-to lens for hybrid shooters and content creators.
  • Impressively lightweight and sleek design suits everyday handheld use and is ideal for travel applications.
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant design suits working in inclement conditions and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front element to resist dust, oils, and fingerprints, and to also make cleaning the front element easier.
  • Integrated Power Zoom control on lens barrel for simple focal length adjustment. When used on select Sony cameras, Power Zoom can also be used via on-camera controls.
  • Intuitive design includes separate aperture/iris, focus, and zoom rings for responsive and natural settings adjustment.

Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G Reviews

The lens for day tour

By Amor

Just came back from Oberammergau, the Alps and the Rhine tour. I have to chose which lenses to bring with my Sony A1 and this combination was a perfect match especially with our daily walking tour. This lens is not only very light but the the shots are super sharp even without a tripod. With f/4 as lowest aperture, Even at 1/75s, the image remains sharp but as much as possible I am comfortable with a shutter speed of not lower than 1/100 to avoid image shake. Overall, I rate this lens a 4 star. I am waiting for the Sony lens lower than f/4 with identical or better features for astrophotography. The image below was taken hand held late in the afternoon after the rain at 16 mm, F/4, ISO 100, 1/75s . The 2nd was taken hand held at 16 mm, F/7.1, ISO 200 and 1/75s.

Negative: No IBIS. Zoom hiccups between 16-35. Positive: Glass looks good. Light weight. Sony should have made FE10-100PZ this way; I remember seeing 'Sony Rumors' of this lens being made and immediately knew it would not be high enough quality or special enough to keep up with the FE28-135PZ lens I have. I got this lens for free from B&H since I am a 501c3 needing to do music video shoots using the DJI RS2. THANK YOU B&H!

Great for IR

In addition to being very light and very sharp, this lens has virtually no IR hot spot which is unusual for a wide angle.

As my title says it's a versatile lens with the power zoom . I shoot live music on small to very large stages. I have a a7siii on a SteadyCam rig and this lens . I purchased the zoom and on off corded switch. ( Don't know what it's called ) Put it on the Zacuto camera cage I use on the sled . It's nice to be able to change my field of view on the fly and the lens is so light . The rocker switch that plugs into the camera isn't good enough to do nice and controlled zooms so don't think that's gonna happen for ya . I found myself reaching up and using the zoom switch on the lens . That works a bit better. Most lenses are good enough to give a good enough quality image . With this lens I'm not seeing in camera while shooting at the wide end any crazy distortion and feel I can frame people for bands fairly close to the edge of the frame . It's not a "colored" lens the image seems a touch desaturated and that's ok . I can dial that in in post . The Sony 35mm G Master seems saturated with color compared with this lens . This is more on par with the Sony 20mm f/1.8 G . A lens I also use a lot for video. Another great light weight high performance lens . So for now I'm loving this lens !

This lens is perfect for run an gun gimbal work. It's so light and balances easily. Also you don't have to balance when you change the focal length.

Small, Light, Great Quality

This lens was a pleasant surprise. It is very small and light weight. I am very please with the sharpness. Even though I only shoot a small amount of video, I find myself mostly using the power zoom feature for still photo shooting.
