Kinotehnik LCDVF52 Reviews
Great with Shinobi
I only use this product with a Shinobi. I cannot say how well it works with other screens. This thing is basically a giant loupe. It fits the Shinobi very well. The sticky tape backing for the magnetic mount fits perfectly. I note some Blackmagic users report problems here but that hasn't been my experience with the Shinobi. I bought it with the extra dioptre package and found the +1 was sufficient as I'm an old enough to have recently had the optical lens implants that come with cataract removal surgery. My only niggle with this loupe is the field of view. Even without the Canstar foam eyepiece cover I can't see the entire field of view without moving my head about to look properly at both sides of the frame. Something else a Shinobi user needs to be aware of is the Touch Screen convenience. When the loupe is on you obviously can't touch the screen. The magnetic mount makes this easily addressed but it can be annoying when shooting under pressure. Overall I can say this is a very good product and I'm glad I bought it. Relying on just a monitor screen is convenient but it can also get you into trouble. There is no substitute for looking through a good viewfinder when setting up a shot and this product turns a Shinobi into just that.
Turn the Ninja into a 5 EVF!
I already had one of their products for the Pocket 4K LCD and it really is a game changer. Not only does it make the 5" screen look like a 10" screen injected right into your eye for easy focus and viewing of details but it helps keep the camera sturdier. The viewfinder for the Ninja which I waited a very long time for is just as magical. Totally different way to see and utilize the 5" screen. My only issues on the Ninja which are no fault at all to this product in any way are the lack of physical controls on the Ninja. Since it's touch screen only it's harder to make changes to switch exposure tools when the touch screen is blocked. I'm only adding this is the hope that newer models of the Ninja can include a physical dial or a few buttons we can assign to turn on/off false color or other tools. As a HDR viewing display while shooting it's really hard to beat this combination. I sometimes shoot HDR PQ on the Canon R6 and seeing the extra nit range in a large easy to see huge magnification is stunning. My R6 shooting HDR tops out around 800 nits so the 1000 nit display is great and matches how the HDR looks on my XDR displays back in my studio. Here are some tips. Sometimes it's ok to use the Ninja as just a monitor. In that case you can send all the camera UI to the monitor. That way you do have physical controls to turn the camera tools on/off. Seeing the camera Ui blown up to that size is amazing. Focus peaking, waveforms, zebras all are so much easier to see. In that case the viewfinder blocking the touchscreen is not an issue at all. You can run & gun for hours. If recording on the Ninja you may want to just use it as a naked monitor with no extra UI getting in the way. Then use the camera LCD to look at info and some tools like the EV meter. This product is darn near perfect and does exactly what it is supposed to do. Even if not used 100% on every shoot it's worth every penny to have it. It detaches easily and a great option to have.
