DZOFilm Pictor Overview

By B&H Photo's

This Pictor T2.8 Super35 Zoom 3-Lens Bundle from DZOFilm consists of three zoom lenses—the 14 to 30mm, 20 to 55mm, and 50 to 125mm—with a standard white finish. The lenses provide coverage of an extended zoom range with a relatively fast maximum aperture. Both cover Super35 sensors and have similar lengths, weight, lens gear positions, and front outer diameter, making for fast lens swaps.

Each lens comes standard with a PL mount and includes a Canon EF Mount for compatibility with a wide range of digital cinema cameras. The lenses hold focus throughout the focal length range and feature matching 16-blade irises for producing round out-of-focus highlights. This bundle includes a durable protective case for transport and storage.

Key Features
The zooms are parfocal in design and performance with a maximum aperture of f/2.8.
The lens design features floating elements that virtually eliminate focus breathing.
Each lens covers the Super35 image circle, comes standard with an interchangeable PL mount, and includes a Canon EF mount.
The 16-blade iris creates round out-of-focus highlights, which have a more natural appearance and contributes to the lens's natural-looking bokeh.
The lens features cine-style gear rings on the focus, iris, and zoom lens rings, making it compatible with cine-style lens accessories such as follow focus units, lens motors, and lens control systems.
The 95mm outer front diameter allows you to use a variety of compatible third-party matte boxes, and the lens has an 86mm filter thread.
A lens support foot allows you to support the lens on rods to help reduce strain on your camera's lens port.

DZOFilm Pictor Reviews

Amazing lens, get a matbox.

theses Lenses are punching way over their price, what you get for 5k here is amazing value and you won't regret buying those as an investment for your picture quality. they boast great sharpness with that vintage character which is very in fashion. one problem with them- glaring! they flare amazing but sometimes when there is too much light hitting the front element you'll get a complete wash out picture with low contrast, simply clipping on a mat box solves this issue and keeps the beautiful flares and gone are the glare.

A most worthy buy

These lens...are beast...made for cinema....and will NOT let you down in performance. These lenses beat most 20,000$+ other cinema lens that I have tried in the past. Throw this on a RED Komodo camera and you're in business with the pros. So far, I have recorded 13 projects with these lens (movies, interviews, commercials) and have yet to run into any issues.

Amazing Lenses!

I agree with all the positive reviews posted here. I would like to however, call out some of the misinformation and otherwise nonsensical comments. Comments in quotes are not mine. It seems a bit pricey to me for what is basically a rehoused vintage photo lens. This is a personal opinion with no scientific or other credible backing. Also, it seems odd that you kept them anyway instead of purchasing the less expensive vintage lenses. I went thru 3 copies before I found one that was able to get to parfocal so the QC is questionable. But you kept them anyway? The build is solid but it feels like they used plain old cheap and heavy steel to make these. Pure nonsense. Can you please describe what old cheap and heavy steel feels like?!? Can you provide your sources proving that these lenses actually use old cheap and heavy steel These lenses are solid and well-built as so many reviews have described them here. The weight is a real bummer for gimbal and handheld work. The specs indicate the weight of the lenses. It should have come as no suprise to you how heavy/light they are. But once again, you purchased them anyway? 95mm front element is ridiculous for a lens that is not even 2.8! False information, these lenses ARE 2.8! Apparently, you did not read the specs. If you did not like that these lenses have a 95mm element, why did you purchase them? This bumps your mattebox costs by several hundred bucks. That's why it is important to research your purchases. Calculate the total cost of ownership BEFORE you make a purchase. You already knew that these lenses would require a larger mattebox. Overall, it produces an image that you can get with a 1970's Takumar. I am still puzzled as to why you purchased these instead of the Takamar. Could you be one of those eBay sellers that trolls sites in an effort to get people to buy items you are selling? This is a lens for show. To make your clients feel better about higher rates. It is nothing special optically. Is this why you purchased them, seriously? First off, clients are not as naive as you may think they are. Second, I would question your integrity if this is your thought process when purchasing gear. All for show. I am beginning to think that this review is from a competitor. No facts, just a lot of hot air. If you are interested in these lenses, do your research. Find film footage to view. Read what actual professionals have to say about them.

Beware of white circle reflections with the white version!

When pairing the white version of these lenses with a matte box with ND filters, you will sometimes get reflections of a round white circle coming from the front of the lens reflecting back into your image so beware!

Took some work to get them parfocal (their guide says to calibrate at 1.5m but you should also calibrate at 2.5m to get it working well at longer focus distances) but once properly calibrated I love using these lenses -- the image is great on my URSA Mini Pro G2 and they're insanely good value considering what the alternatives cost. A little softer wide open but as soon as you go to T4 they're very sharp.

50% good, 50% really bad

I took this duo and the 20 50mm has a parfocal defect while the other is perfect. They are otherwise incredible lenses and this defect is normal on a production lot. BUT the srpes sales department of DZO is non-existent. I haven't been able to contact anyone for 2 weeks for my defective lens... good lenses, bad brand

Although the DZO Pictor lenses will fit onto Metabones speed booster adapters for Canon EF mount, they will not project a full frame image onto a small sensor because they are natively Super35 lenses.

Is there no back focus adjustment? If not, is a shim kit available for adjusting the back focus by removing the mount and placing shims behind it?
Asked by: Norman
I bought the 50-125 a few days ago. Added the shims myself. Backfocus is PERFECT now. I can stress enough how good this lens performs, looks and feels. Crazy that it's so affordable, compared to other cinema zooms.
