Close-Focusing Wide-Angle Prime
Designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens is a close-focusing wide-angle prime ideally suited for landscapes, cityscapes, and close-up scenes. Featuring a unique half-macro design, this lens offers a minimum focusing distance of just 3.7", making it an excellent choice for photographing and filming everything from close-ups of plants and small details to street scenes and vistas. Optimized for video as well as stills, the lens provides smooth and near silent autofocus performance to complement movie recording applications, and the lens is also compatible with micro-step aperture control, which enables smooth exposure changes while recording video.

Sophisticated Optical Design
  • Boasting an outstanding optical design, this lens is comprised of twelve elements in nine groups, which include two aspherical elements to maintain a compact form factor and reduce spherical aberrations and distortions.
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements and one ultra-high refractive index element work to minimize color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased color fidelity, edge-to-edge sharpness, and high resolving performance.
Versatile Focusing Performance
  • Smooth and near silent autofocus performance complements movie recording applications while the quick operation is beneficial to still photographers.
  • Excellent video performance with a mechanical design that suppresses focus breathing. Also compatible with micro-step aperture control, which enables smooth exposure changes while recording video.
All-Purpose Functionality
  • Lightweight and rugged wide-angle prime specifically designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless digital cameras, where it provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 18mm.
  • Bright f/1.7 maximum aperture well-suited to working in difficult and low lighting conditions, also affords greater control over depth of field for selective focus techniques.
  • Half-macro design benefits working with close-up subjects and provides a minimum focusing distance of just 3.7".
  • A rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when making shallow depth of field imagery.
  • Dust, splash, and freeze-resistant design protects the lens during heavy field use and harsh conditions.

Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9mm f/1.7 Reviews

A USEFUL LENS

I've had ultrawide film-specific lenses, and learned that they have limited use. Then, I bought this 9mm 1.7 lens and was pleased. Here's why: It is a sharp lens, it is a compact lens, easy to handle. An ultrawide that is rectilinear and doesn't show a lot of barrel distortion puts it into a more useful category. The telling situation was taking a family portrait of 16 people on our front porch. Every face was clear, and well defined, and straight lines stayed straight- and sharp!

understand this leica lens was developed for blogging and drones. hence the one, simple focus ring. reason why i bought it? wanted a lens for macro, and wanted a wide angle for everyday. fresh water, seashore, and landscapes. plus following the grand kids activities with video and stills. this here little dude does it all !

On a recent trip this lens was on my G9 over 80% of the time. Great performance wide open, and great almost macro capability. Captures big and small. Have considered Venus Optics, decided on this just for autofocus and close focus. Very satisfied.

Razer sharp wide-angle lens with great bokeh for micro 4/3. Bought this for my recent trip to the Netherlands. Small and compact for travel. Great photos and highly recommended compact lens.

Very nice lens - great to have something this wide with both fast aperture and AF. Unfortunately, it was up against the chipped Laowa 7.5 f/2, and it lost out because of a couple factors: obviously, the Laowa is wider, but I could overlook that if the PanaLeica 9mm's performance on my OM-1 was stellar; unfortunately, the 9mm exhibited pretty distinct purple flare in interior shots with a bright window off-center in the frame. This wasn't as dramatic as the infamous Panasonic 7-14 f/4 purple blobs issue on Olympus bodies, but it was still enough, when coupled with it being not quite as wide as I'd like, for it to lose out to the remarkable Laowa for my use.

Excellent sharp images with no distortion despite being an 18mm full frame equivalent. Small, light and well built. Looks amazing on my Pen F. This is a must have for micro 4/3.

I have a slew of micro four thirds lenses, but I didn't feel like my collection was complete until I had a good rectilinear wide angle lens that was good for low light (and had autofocus). This lens ticks all of those boxes and then some: The bonus is the close focusing distance! There is a lot of correction being done in camera to make this lens rectilinear, so it isn't a zero D lens, but still this little lens is perfect for a slew of jobs: Vlogging, Real estate, Landscape, macro Landscape...maybe Astro (haven't tried it for astro yet). I have the Olympus 8mm Fish Eye, which is also fantastic, but if you correct it, it can look very stretched, this lens doesn't suffer from that issue. Great little fun lens!
