Insta360 CINSTAW Reviews

Do not buy!

Instead of trying to produce a stable product, they worked hard to make it look perfect on their website. It doesn't come close to what's being said. We definitely do not recommend. It has a lot of problems, most notably the shifting and jitters in the image junctions.

Interferes with Air 2S GPS and strangely missing 1/3 view

When using this camera, the drone only picks up 7-8 satellites and therefore cannot fly in GPS mode, which is unsafe and limits the range capabilities and height. Also, the 360 file is missing 1/3 of the image - which is a first for me. Never seen that before. I will be returning.

AMAZING Idea that is still young and needs work

Firstly, I was so pumped for this, I bought an Air 2S so I could use it. The idea is amazing. As far as I know, this is the first of its kind, so despite all the stuff I am about to say about it, I really hope they keep at it and improve upon it. Here are some ways they really should improve upon it They had 8 sides to choose where to put the micro sd card slot, 4 of them hard to get to and 4 very easy to get to. Guess which one they chose? It's not as impossible to get out as the Mavic 3, but still fairly annoying. They tout the 5.7k resolution but keep in mind that is the resolution for the entire 360 scene. The most you are going to get out of it is 1080p, which, I mean, is pretty archaic. You can change settings on the iphone app and tell it to take a picture and stuff but it operates via a pretty weak wifi network so ... no flying 400 ft up and then taking a photo. In fact, after about 20 feet, I lose the connection. So you have to dial in all your settings and start recording before you launch and cut around all of the nonsense before and after landing. I'm not sure if there is a better way around this short of licensing DJI OccuSync. For photos, your only option really is to rip a frame out of the video later. You have to land this thing on the bottom lens or hand catch and launch (which they specifically tell you not to do). So they give you these plastic things to stick on to cover and protect the glass. These are annoying for 2 reasons, 1) they are sticky so you can't take them on and off at will and 2) they corrupt the already weak 1080p image (you can see the cover in post where the sun hits it). The software for PC, Insta360 Studio 2022 is very basic. Coming from Resolve, I really struggle to find it useful. The idea is great, you can reframe your footage using keyframes and export. There is no concept of timelines and clips and you can't cut and edit and move clips next to each other. You will end up with like 15 minutes of footage and if you only want 30s from here and 30s from there, you gotta cut both scenes individually, export them, and then merge them in some other program. They really need to let you manage clips better. They added a concept of a project but it is very bizarre and needs work. The stitching is pretty bad. I'm not sure where or how it is done, but this has two cameras and something stitches the video from both into one 360. When I am editing in their program, I often see warping and stitching errors. Support said this is expected when the drone changes speeds. So ... only expect decently stitched video when your $1200 drone is just sitting still. Support was kind and responsive. I really hope they forwarded my thoughts higher up and I hope for some firmware updates to make this stitch better and make hardware changes for the next model. tl;dr the idea is great but it needs improvement. It is not really suitable for professional use
