Apple MacBook Pro 13.3" Mid 2022 Overview

Designed for photographers, filmmakers, 3D artists, music producers, and other content creators, the silver Apple 13.3" MacBook Pro delivers the power to drive demanding creative applications, allowing professionals to get more done in less time.

This lightweight mobile workstation features an Apple M2 8-Core processor that is designed to deliver up to 18 percent greater, or 1.4x faster, performance compared to the previous M1 CPU while maintaining high battery efficiency. Its 10-core integrated GPU is also 35 percent faster than the M1, which significantly cuts down rendering times when working with intensive applications. The 13.3" Retina display features a 2560 x 1600 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, wide P3 color gamut support, and more. With 8GB of memory and 512GB of SSD storage, you can quickly multitask applications and load large video clips and project files.

Powering Creative Workflows
Apple M2 CPU
Now packed with 20 billion transistors, the Apple M2 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). The additional transistors, 25 percent more than the M1, improve the features of the chip, including the memory controller that can deliver up to 100 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. The M2 has faster performance cores with a larger cache and the efficiency cores have been enhanced for more performance gains. Together, the M2 delivers up to 18 percent greater multithreaded performance than the M1. This means the Apple M2 performs up to 1.4 times faster than the previous generation M1 while still delivering battery life of up to 17 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 20 hours of video playback.
Unified Memory
The M2 processor has 100 GB/s memory bandwidth, which is 50 percent more than M1. Its 8GB of onboard memory helps to deliver fluid multitasking when working with massive files.
Retina Display
The 13.3" Retina display uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology and features a 2560 x 1600 native resolution, delivering sharp and clear images with support for HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG high dynamic range and 500 nits of brightness.
Brilliant Color
The MacBook Pro supports the P3 wide color gamut for vivid, true-to-life color in photos and videos.
True Tone
True Tone technology automatically adjusts the white balance of the screen to match the color temperature of the light around you for a more natural viewing experience.
Spacious Storage
Store your applications, video clips, photo library, and other large files on the 512GB internal SSD for near instant access.
Thunderbolt 3
The two Thunderbolt 3 ports utilize the versatile USB Type-C connector while supporting up 40 Gb/s data transfers, video output, and charging through a single port. A single 6K, 60 Hz external display may be connected through the Thunderbolt 3 ports.
MacBook Pro Design
Thermal Efficiency
Active cooling sustains high performance. Thanks to its advanced thermal system and the efficiency of Apple silicon, the MacBook Pro can sustain pro levels of performance, so you can run CPU- and GPU-intensive tasks for hours on end.
Spatial Sound Speakers
The MacBook Pro includes an integrated stereo speaker system with high dynamic range. Dolby Atmos spatial audio is supported through the speakers, 3rd generation AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max. Connect a headset to the 3.5mm audio jack for added privacy.
Be Seen, Be Heard
The 720p FaceTime HD camera takes full advantage of the M2's image signal processor to reduce noise while face detection automatically adjusts the white balance and exposure levels, so you'll always look great on video calls. At the same time, the 3-array studio-quality beamforming microphones help to ensure that your voice always comes through loud and clear.
Fast Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) connectivity delivers up to 1.2 Gb/s throughput with compatible devices for smooth video streaming, data transfer, and video calling experiences.
High Security
The M2 chip works with macOS to give the MacBook Pro enhanced security and privacy features. With built-in protections against malware and viruses, the freedom to choose what you share and how you share it, and silicon-level features like Touch ID and Apple Pay, this laptop is built to safeguard your privacy and data at every stage.
Magic Keyboard
With the Magic Keyboard, the MacBook Pro delivers a comfortable, quiet, and responsive typing experience. Additionally, the Touch Bar puts your most used commands, shortcuts, emojis, and Siri at your fingertips, saving time and keystrokes. Touch ID provides fast and easy authentication for secure logins and purchases.
All-Day Battery Life
MacBook Pro's M2 processor is designed to deliver high power efficiency without sacrificing performance. Its 58.2Wh lithium-polymer battery provides up to 20 hours of video playback.

Apple MacBook Pro 13.3" Mid 2022 Reviews

Good upgrade

I just got this new laptop to replace my 2013 MacBook. Definitely much faster computer as expected but I do miss some of the inputs on the side. Hopefully Apple will bring that back.

This is my first MacBook ever. I got the 1TB harddrive with 24GB Ram. It's very fast, and love how it sync with my iPhone. Didn't realize that you can't install Windows as bootcamp isn't available on the new M1 and M2 processor chips, but found a work around for that.

The newer M2 chip provides for faster access to memory and an option for 24GB of Ram. Slightly faster power adaptor which isn't much of an issue since I use Anker charging cords and products. All in all not much difference in performance but that'll vary depending on what you use it for. Photoshop is zippier, especially with larger files, but I have no way of quantifying that. I think Apple says the M2 is around 20% better than their M1 models and I'll just have to take their word for that. It is a nice machine and I have no complaints about it. I'd buy it again.

Why is apple stingy with ports?

Well, it's a Mac - and that's good. Seems fast, which is what I was hoping for with the M2 chip. But, jeez! Can't apple add more than two ports, one of which is needed for a power adapter? One passive 4-port USB hub and things are better, but really, apple? Just got it, so expect it to be great in many ways, so I'll live with the latest limitations apple puts on us

My best Mac yet

I love this portability much more than I thought I would. My 16-inch is powerful, but I don't really need that 90% of the time. I will be traveling with this most of the time now. The battery life exceeds my 16-inch as well. With a lower resolution, the screen size is rarely an issue. I'd suggest it, and with delays in manufacturing, I bet M2 14 and 16 inches won't be available for another six months or more.

A wonderful machine to use!

Waited for this one to be announced, and bought it to replace a 2015 Retina 13 MBP. I opted for the MBP over the Air as I wanted to do some software development and other compute-intensive tasks, and felt that having a fan-cooled unit would be more appropriate. It was well worth the wait, and my order was filled quickly and efficiently, as have all my previous orders with B&H !

I wonder why would Apple take a step back again ...

I wonder why would Apple take a step back again by leaving off the Magsafe, connectivity ports and putting the Touchbar back on? This seems like the previous design MBP with an M2. Am I missing something?
Asked by: stephen
Unfortunately we would not be able to say for sure what the research and design process looks like at Apple, but for now you have two different options with the M2 processor: The MacBook Pro M2, with touch bar and no Magsafe charging, or the MacBook Air M2, with Magsafe charging and no touch bar. There will also no doubt be more M2 models coming later, so for now if you prefer the Magsafe feature and do not care for the touch bar, the MacBook Air M2 is a more attractive proposition.

Why isn't the headphone jack electrically compatible with all 3 of my premium brand headphones?

Not all headphones will work when plugged directly into a laptop's headphone jack. Some headphones, especially high-end and audiophile models, will have a high impedance and require a headphone amp/external DAC to work properly.
