FUSION TLC Raven Overview

Compatible with Hasselblad X and Nikon camera bodies, the Raven Flash Trigger from FUSION TLC offers the unique ability to trigger and control power levels of two different flash brands at the same time. It works with flashes from Profoto, Paul C. Buff, Godox, Flashpoint, Pixapro, PocketWizard, Canon, and Nikon using PocketWizard Flex TT5/TT6.

The Raven flash trigger offers multiple features such as dual flash brand control and triggering, TTL, Manual and PowerTrack modes, SyncView, HSS, Control Modes (Sync Only, Manual + Sync, Full Control), remote camera triggering, Auto and Manual Focus assist light, Fill light, RF Noise Indicator, MultiPop and SpeedCycle, Intervalometer, OLED color touchscreen, Wi-Fi firmware updates, and more. Hand's down the best radio I've owned

I should start off by saying that this is the second Raven I have purchased. A large part of my work is architectural and industrial environment shooting, and I must say, this little bugger has allowed me to really up my game. For one, the Raven allows for me to dial in flash output for up to four (4) separate zones which is paramount when shooting large spaces with extremely varied ambient light and/or hyper challenging lighting environments. And when I say "dial in" I literally mean dial the flash output on a dial that resembles a diver's watch. Super easy. The Raven also allows one to mix two different lighting sources together and be controlled by one single radio (i.e., Godox, Profoto, Paul Buff, PocketWizard, etc.). During the time I was trying to build out my lighting platform to one single brand, this is immensely helpful. I finally settled on a combination of about a half dozen Godox AD600 and AD400 units which is usually enough horsepower to light most large architectural and industrial spaces that I would be commissioned to shoot. Furthermore, with as much traveling as I do on assignment, and factoring in the bang for the buck, the Godox units have proved to be an extremely reliable platform, especially when pairing with the Raven which is light years ahead of the Godox radio kit. Lastly, the SyncView feature of the Raven is nothing short of amazing. As a former sports shooter, I can't tell you how much I wish this technology had been around years ago. The SyncView is also very handy when one has to overpower the sun. Gone are the days when a shooter needed a series of monster 2K WS packs to achieve those results. We can now use strobes at a fraction of the power and simply dial up the shutter speeds to something north of 1/2000th of a second and achieve brilliance. I am including two recent client shots that I took that were extremely difficult ambient lighting scenarios. By simply manually controlling and dialing in each strobe zone separately, I was able to achieve consistent exposure throughout the image. Each shot was taken with 4 separate strobes and lighting zones. PS - I forgot to mention, the brightness of the radio screen is great too, especially for old farts like me who can't see things up close very well anymore!!!

Unit works well, very expensive for CDN's plus you need to buy e-releases for your PW's. The PW TT6's were supposed to be future proof but guess what. We now have another one that claims to be the same. Time will tell. However the unit is a bit loose on the hot shoe could be tighter. It works well with the upgraded PW's and Paul C Buff strobes.

Sealed battery - Micro USB

This unit is nice in that it will address multiple brands of lighting. Disappointing they don't address Canon flashes on the Canon version. The sealed battery is a huge negative for me. I have had other PW triggers and other brands for more than a decade. I could always take along batteries in case you run out or if you forget to charge your unit before an event. What happens when the battery fails? Will they change it out and for how long? The charging cord is micro usb. It is amazingly not usb c like everything else I own in 2022. I am continuing my trials with this one but believe after many years it may be my last PW product.

At this time the FUSION TLC Raven Flash Trigger is only made for Canon, Nikon and Hasselblad X. There is no news at this time of one being made for Broncolor.

According to the Camera and Flash Compatibility link on Fusion TLC's website, yes, the FUSION TLC Raven Flash Trigger for Canon has direct communication to the Link from Paul C. Buff.

My PocketWizards are CE frequency, will the Raven ...

My PocketWizards are CE frequency, will the Raven work with them? Or does this version only trigger FCC PocketWizards?

Since the radio frequency of Pocket Wizard with FCC compliance is 344Mhz, the FUSION TLC Raven Flash Trigger for Nikon cannot trigger the Pocket Wizards with CE compliance.
