The omnidirectional setting captures audio in a 360° field around the mic, making it a smart choice to pick up environmental sounds and voices from behind the camera.
High-Quality Recording and Digital Transmission to Your Camera
The ECM-B10 converts analog sound to digital within the microphone body and performs digital signal processing using Sony's unique algorithms—enabling three directional pickup patterns as well as noise reduction. In-body digital conversion also helps to reduce noise inside the microphone.

Direct digital audio transmission to the camera eliminates signal degradation, supplying pristine in-camera audio recordings without the noise and hiss common to analog preamps found in many cameras.

A simple Digital/Analog switch also provides compatibility with a wide range of cameras using an analog interface. The ECM-B10 is compatible with a7R IV, a7C, ZVE10 cameras and other Sony products with MI (Multi-interface shoe) that support digital audio.

Advanced Beamforming Technology
The ECM-B1M is equipped with four high-performance mic capsules. Digital signal processing using beamforming technology achieves high-quality audio with three switchable directivities, providing three microphones in one, including superdirectivity.
Your Choice of Three Pickup Patterns
Choose the most suitable pickup pattern with an easy-to-reach, three-way switch on the rear panel of the microphone. Quickly switch back and forth among the three pickup patterns, giving you the flexibility to adapt to your shooting requirements.
Superdirectional: Focused Front Area
Ideal for selfies or interviews, the superdirectional pattern collects sound from a focused area in front of the microphone, effectively suppressing sounds from off-axis and behind the camera.
Unidirectional: Wide Frontal Range
Perfect for multiperson conversations, the unidirectional pattern captures sound from a wide field in front of the microphone, while minimizing pickup from behind.
Omnidirectional : Sound from Any Direction
The omnidirectional pattern picks up audio equally from all directions, useful for recording environmental sounds or the voice of the camera operator.
Noise Filters, Auto-Level, Pad Controls on Intuitive, Easily Visible Rear Panel
Controls for pickup pattern and other functions are easy to reach on the rear panel and visible at a glance for quick adjustments during shooting.

The ECM-B10's noise-cut filter and low-cut filter are very effective at reducing extraneous ambient noises and cutting out low-frequency noise through the use of digital signal processing algorithms, maximizing audio quality at the recording stage and reducing the need for complex post-processing.

Auto level control and a variable pad (-20, -10, 0 dB) makes it easy to set optimum recording levels.

Compact and Portable Mic
Even at only 3.1" in length, the ECM-B10 offers impressive directional audio capture. Its small size gives you plenty of clearance for wide-angle lenses, viewfinder use, and gimbals.
Cable-Free Connection
No cables are required for connection to a wide range of Sony cameras equipped with an MI shoe. The absence of connecting cables means that no noise can be transmitted to the microphone mechanically via cables and connectors.
Designed to Minimize Shock and Vibration Noise
The ECM-B10 features an advanced shock- and vibration-suppressing design to effectively minimize low-frequency or handling noise, which can degrade audio quality.
Dust- and Moisture-Resistant Design
Complementing similarly dust- and moisture-resistant cameras, the ECM-B10 designed for worry-free outdoor shooting.
Battery-Free Operation
Power is supplied via the MI shoe in compatible cameras, so you don't have to worry about microphone batteries running out during a shoot.
Supplied Windscreen
The ECM-B10 comes with a furry windshield that's easily detachable and effective with reducing wind noise for capturing crisp audio on outdoor shoots.

Great Mic from Sony

This is a great microphone from Sony. It has so many options for any situation, (the best part about it) and it works and sounds great for what I use it for. I would recommend it.

I still prefer my Rode Videomicro

The highs on this mic are noticeable when compared to m VideoMicro. This also does not sound as full as the Rode. It has cool features such as Omnidirectional but that is about it. Most vlogging style shotguns will give you that superdirectional sound that this mic features. The only other features worth mentioning are LC and NC. Low Cut does remove background hum such as a running refrigerator so that is a nice feature. The Noice Canceling is poor. If you have ever used NC software before you can notice a warping or underwater sound when someone first begins to speak. I think the software typically takes time to determine if you are an ambient noise or the individual speaking. I just didn't know if the technology would have improved by now. It hasn't. I would never use the NC for any paid work. Lastly to use in digital mode you have to have one of Sony's newest cameras. Digital does not work on my A6600, A7iii, but it does on my A7IV. The pins looks exactly the same. I'm not sure if a FW upgrade would make this compatible or if it really is a hardware issue. I probably would keep this if it worked with all of my Sony cameras. At this point to maximize this thing I would only be able to use it on my A7IV and I still record with all of my cameras. Lastly, auto mode works pretty good, but personally I like adjusting volume levels on my own within the camera body. Its just something I'm used to and I trust myself more than relying on a mic to be in auto mode. This mic is good, it works good, but I can't recommend it. There is better for much cheaper.

Great sounding Microphone with many options. I love that I can choose the mic pattern depending on what I'm using it for.

Perfect for starting my YouTube channel

Having just started my journey into videography, vlogging and YouTube, I wanted a simple mic that I didn't need to fuss around with and it would sound great out of the gate. Happy to report that this mic sounds much better than my previous Rode Video Micro with settings all in auto. Just exactly what I needed as I'm too pre-occupied worrying/learning about everything else in this whole new videography world lol. I also love that no cables are needed, nor does it need batteries or charging. Literally just plug in play. Another advantage over the Rode Video Micro is the 3 different settings (pickup patterns) to be able to use it as a shotgun mic for direct Vlogging (Super-directional) but also change to get sound from 360, especially when I'm talking behind the camera (Omnidirectional). All within a simple switch on the unit itself. With the Rode, I was constantly flipping it back and forth. And lastly... the mic is small! Pointing and talking to a camera in public already draws enough unwanted attention as is, but this small set up helps with looking much more discreet. Highly recommend this mic!

Sounds virtually the same as the ECM-B1M... except it's smaller, lighter and cheaper than its predecessor. Perfect for run-and-gun shoots as well as vlogging with no loss in audio quality. Definitely recommend this mic!

I thought it would work on the a77ii. This is not the case. Rating neutral because I don't know how it works on compatible cameras.

Compact, great mic.

I purchased this microphone for my Sony A7 IV. It connects easily, I like not to have to worry about a battery running out of power. I like to have access to the settings on the back. Sound definitely is improved. I find it simply a little bit pricey, but advantage of not having to deal with cable and the size made me buy it.

What is the technical difference between this and the Sony ECM-B1M?
Asked by: kristen
The Sony ECM-B10 Compact Camera-Mount Digital Shotgun Microphone is a smaller and less expensive microphone that is based on the design of the original Sony ECM-B1M Camera-Mount Digital Shotgun Microphone. The main difference between the two models is the number of electret condenser mic elements. The ECM-B1M has eight mic elements and the ECM-B10 has four. Both mics have the same options for cardioid, supercardioid, and omnidirectional polar patterns, and the controls on the back of the mic are identical.
