Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition Reviews

As of 240931 it is no longer the best

I have two Insta360 One RS 1-inch 360 cameras. The first one I bought day one, the second purchase was just days after first use because it was that good. It WAS a great camera. It beat all other consumer 360's that came before it. However, the new new insta360 X4 and the new Kandao QooCam 3 Ultra beat this camera (except MAYBE in low light, still testing). Worse, the price of the ONE RS 1-Inch just went by $200 and the better two cameras are much LESS. The only good news left (as of now) is that I can now sell both my used ONE RS 1-inch cameras for more than I could a few days ago, because when the price new goes up, so does the price used.

Pretty good, but could use a little more resolution

This post will compare it to the Insta360 X3. I bought the X3 first, but the quality of intricate details left some to be desired. I was really excited for the 72 megapixels of the images for the X3. However, that created a lot of artifacts and no greater details than the standard resolution. So, I bought the ONE RS-1 Inch to see if there was a justification for twice the expense. There is definitely a quality difference. The photo I included is zoomed to 3x to make it larger for you, but also to show the details between the two. That water tower says Hutchinson on it and is almost exactly 1/4 mile away. The foreground building that says The Link on it is about 400 ft away. The ONE RS 1-Inch does much better because of the Leica and the 1-inch sensor. The X3 is great for just being out and about and not for anyone who does pixel peeping. I need mine for real estate, so it did need to be a better. I have two cons for this. One is the resolution. I'd love to see it as 8K for better clarity and more flexibility, but 6K with a 1-inch sensor is still asking a fair amount. The other con is the assembly of the camera. I get the design, but the having to disassemble to get to the micro SD card is kind of a pain. you look at it and you see 2 parts, but in reality, it's 4 parts. The outer cover for the handle, the top lens/camera, the middle screen/recorder and the battery on bottom. My workaround with this design is that I leave it assembled and just use USB to get the data off the card. Just a design complaint that isn't really a complaint. The feel of the camera is solid when assembled. I don't feel like anything wiggles or would come apart at any time. Overall, I'm happy with the quality, but if you take anything away from this, please try to avoid processing the images with the app. You will actually notice quality differences between that and using PTGUI or some other panorama software. Low light video is night and day difference between this and the X3. This one handles it beautifully. Please watch YT videos showing the quality. You'll be impressed with video, I think, and photos will definitely get the job done for most of anyone's 360 needs.
