Elinchrom Rotalux Speedring Overview

Featuring enhanced strength at key points and an all metal construction, the Rotalux Speed Ring for Elinchrom Flash Heads from Elinchrom provides the key to using your go-to flash heads with Rotalux softboxes. The speed ring offers fast setup and is compatible with rectangular softboxes, octaboxes, stripboxes, square softboxes, and octa softboxes via color-coded sockets.

Stronger Rotalux Speed Rings
Developed in response to feedback from working photographers, the Rotalux speed rings have been strengthened in specific spots to ensure that any movable parts will withstand the hard stresses caused by repeated assembly and disassembly.
Color Coding For Fast Setup
The Rotalux speed ring design has also been consolidated to one ring that all 11 Rotalux shapes can be built off of. Colored indicators have been added at all mount points to guide users quickly and easily through set up. All guess work has been eliminated because red marks indicate the appropriate mount points for strip boxes: blue indicates mount points for square, and octas have no specific color because they utilize all mount points.

Please read this review before purchasing. While the ring itself is solid the clamp is not and will snap after only a couple of uses.

Beware!!!

This is an excellent speedring. But! In the box the ferrules are flipped over to the wrong side of the ring. (Must be for shipping.) The B&H illustration shows this. See those ferrules pointing backwards from the colored marks on the ring? Every one must be flipped over to the opposite side of the ring before it can be used in the softbox (see photo). Then the EL mount sticks out the back, the rods go in and fold down, the box opens up and Voila! Perfect! I had to stand there and scratch my head for a while to realize Elinchrom had the ring configured backwards as shipped. Now I love it on my Elinchrom softboxes.

Now with 2 knobs

I had to wait several months for the ring to be available. It works basically as the prior model. The only difference is that now has 2 knobs instead of 1. No other improvements. I have attached it to a 60x80 box, while the manual states to use the blue marks for this size. It is inaccurate. The red marks are the one to use for the 60x80 Elinchrom rotalux.

Easy to use

These are very easy to use without any hassles. Rotolux folds up nicely without having to disassemble whole softbox. Highly recommended.

Needed to use your diffusers, what is there more to say?

Well, you need one to use your diffusers so take one (or more). It snaps in place when locked in, but still have a bit of give. It is solid, though, and seems to be of quality.
