Broad Views, Close-Up Details
Mixing a broad field of view with a close-focusing design, the Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM is a unique combination of an ultra-wide focal length and a macro lens. Pairing these two attributes, this lens enables shooting at close-range while maintaining a broad sense of space and increased depth of field compared to conventional telephoto macro optics.
Wide-Angle Macro Lens
  • Wide-angle prime is suitable for a variety of subjects, including landscapes, nature, and street, and the close-focusing ability helps to home in on nearby subjects in between photographing broad spaces.
  • Macro designation offers a 1:2 half life-size maximum magnification and a minimum focusing distance of 5.5".
  • Bright f/1.8 design offers both depth of field control and suits working in a variety of lighting situations.
  • One UD (ultra-low dispersion) element and one aspherical element control both chromatic and spherical aberrations for well-corrected imagery that is especially sharp and color-accurate.
  • Super Spectra coating has been applied to resist flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth, pleasing bokeh quality.
Autofocus, IS, and Design
  • STM stepping motor offers fast, quiet, smooth, and accurate autofocus performance that benefits both stills and video recording needs.
  • Optical Image Stabilizer minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 5 stops, or 6.5 stops with coordinated IS, to better enable working handheld in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
  • Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.

Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Reviews

Great lens!

This is a great focal length for wide angle shots. It has a short focusing distance for close up photos while still retaining much of the background.

Great lens

I picked up this lens to replace my EF 24mm f/2.8 (gradually going from EF to RF lenses). Comparing them side by side on my R6 for the same scene, they are optically very close, which is to say very good. The EF lens is very sharp of course across the fame, down to the corners. Comparing them at f/2.8, the same is true for the RF lens. At f/1.8, the corners are slightly soft, but I'm not planning to put my subject in the corner when shooting at f/1.8. The center and mid portions of the frame are very sharp side open, so this lens will work well for environmental portraits and such. And for landscapes, I stop down anyway. After those comparisons, I plan to sell my EF lens and keep this one. It gives me the option to use f/1.8, is lighter and less cumbersome (no adapter needed). It also has macro though I don't think I will use this.

Great lens at a great price

I own the EF 24mm f/1.4 II and was looking for a fast similar lens for my R5's. This really fit nicely into my travel pack. While it is not an L lens the price is great. The difference between f/1.4 and f/1.8 in my opinion is negligible and the weight difference is about 50% of that of the EF lens. This is a sharp fast lens.

Bought the lens, reviewed the lens, the ad revenue paid off the investment. Took it to the Appalachians. Astonishing visuals paid with pro mist glass. A great investment with great quality

My favorite focal length

Of course, I'm referring to the equivalent focal length on my new Canon R7 body, which is 38.4 mm because it has an APS-C size sensor. An ideal general purpose focal length. Sharp and Fast, and a very good match to the properties of the R7.

Typical Canon quality

I'm still learning how to take macro photographs, but have had success already. Quality lens that's an excellent addition to my kit.

On my R7 this is a perfect walk around lens. The images are sharp, and the color rendition is superb. I suspect it will spend a lot of time on my camera.
