Featuring an 8x zoom ratio that begins at 50mm, this remarkably compact and portable lens offers a length of just 7.2" making it the same size as conventional 100-400mm zoom lenses.
Closeup Capabilities
In addition to its ultra-telephoto capabilities, the lens is well-suited for macro photography as well. With a minimum focusing distance of just 9.8" at the 50mm end, the 50-400mm provides up to one-half life-size magnification for closeup shooting.
Autofocus and Vibration Compensation
The VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism delivers fast, quiet, and precise autofocus.

VC (Vibration Compensation) system reduces camera shake and facilitates shooting at longer focal lengths and slower shutter speeds.
Updatable for Modern Times
For staying up-to-date and customizing your lens for maximum performance, the lens features a USB Type-C connector port for Tamron Lens Utility software, which enables you to customize functions and update the firmware for the lens by using a computer.
Intuitive Handling and Design
  • Rapid zoom ring and zoom lock switch.
  • Compatibility with many camera-specific features and functions, including Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF.
  • Moisture-resistant design and fluorine coating to effectively repel dust, water droplets, fingerprints, and dirt.
  • 67mm front filter size, the same as most other TAMRON mirrorless lenses, provides greater convenience when using multiple lenses together.
  • Optional Arca-type accessory tripod mount for ease of use when using a tripod.

Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC Reviews

Fantastic all-rounder!

This is as close to a perfect lens as I've owned. I shoot mainly landscape and nature photos, so this range works well for lots of shots. I'm using mainly with the Sony A7C full frame. The image stabilization works great. I can get shots as slow as 1/6 of a second as 50mm and about 1/60 at 400. At 200, I don't have to worry about motion blur at all. The lens is very sharp, even at F16. I get some stunning macro shot of flowers with it. What's more, it works well for getting close up to subjects from a few feet away. The lens is heavy, but not bad considering the focal range. The lens hood works well and I haven't noticed any issues with flare or fogging. In fact, the contrast is excellent overall. I highly recommend this lens for Sony full frame cameras!

Good Lens but missing required connection cable

I have no issues with the lens. The image quality is great. Good balance between length/weight and reach. It does not have a dedicated limit switch which I would prefer. But it does have a custom switch to which you can assign various functions. The problem is that the $1300 lens does not come with the required Connection Cable (sold separately). I am willing to spend a little money to purchase their cable but I can not find it anywhere. I always felt that Tamron provided excellent quality for price but not including the Connection Cable has really lowered my opinion of the company.

Excellent Image Quality

The image quality from the lens at all focal lengths is amazing, considering the price! I'm getting very sharp image, especially for close-up shots on my Sony a7C. It really is the best option for a normal to super tele lens in terms of quality to price ratio. HOWEVER, the color balance leaves a LOT to be desired. I'm correcting for a quite significant green cast in all images in Lightroom. I'd suggest bringing a gray-scale card with you at all times.

Sharp. I use this it on the daily basis and it is my favorite now. For the image stabilization, I would suggest use mode 2, seems mode 2 works better than mode 1 in almost all scenarios.

Clear and sharp

I admit that I haven't had much opportunity to use this lens yet as the weather hasn't been cooperative in my area. But the photos I have taken are very sharp at all focal lengths. Though this is a fairly heavy lens, it takes great pictures. My only real beef is that I couldn't find a dedicated collar.

Very pleasant surprise

I own several Sony GM lenses and purchased this Tamron 50-400 because of the impressive telephoto range. The lenses are used on an A7RV. The lens is perhaps, a bit less hefty than the typical Sony GM lens but the performance is superb. Sharp with fast and accurate focus at all settings. Ability to upgrade firmware and personalize settings of buttons with computer App is a plus. I must say that though not inexpensive, the price point is quite good. That said, realize that a case and tripod mount are not included as they are with Sony lenses. In summary, an excellent lens!

Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD Lens for Sony E will work together with the IBIS on certain cameras, but it doesn't really improve the amount of stops that you can hand hold. That function is only available on the Sony A7rm5 and certain Sony lenses as seen here: https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/function/compatibility.php?fnc=1002&area=gb&lang=en&ref=1
