Tilta TA-BSP3-V-B Overview

Incorporate a V-mount battery plate into your Canon R5 C camera cage configuration using this Smart V-Mount Arca-Type Baseplate from Tilta. Mount almost any V-mount battery to the device thanks to its height-adjustable 15mm rod design. A 5V USB-C port and 14.8V D-Tap port can power additional accessories like fill lights or sound recording devices.

An additional USB-C with PD support adjusts your battery's voltage to best suit the camera or accessories it is connected to. The Arca-type baseplate connects the device to the Tilta R5 C camera cage or any other cage or camera body with Arca compatibility. Included with the plate is a USB-C cable clamp to secure the port's connectivity while preventing disconnection. Its steel and aluminum alloy construction ensures a durable design.

A follow-up to my previous review: After speaking with several Tilta techs, it looks like the description of this product is wrong. The package list mentions a QR plate but such a plate does not exist. In order for you to use this rig, you need the Canon R5C cage (minus the QR plate that THAT kit comes with). The bottom of the actual cage is what slides into the receiver of this rig. Some other Tilta cages may fit this receiver but I've only tried with the R5C. It would have made more sense for Tilta to design this receive to work with the QR plate that comes with the R5C cage so one could easily transfer between the LWS and this setup but, sadly, that's not the case.

AVOID. No quick release plate.

I've ordered three of these and had to return each one because none of them include the QR plate -- a fact that makes the product essentially unusable. This seems to be an issue on Tilta's side as I ordered two from B&H and one directly from Tilta, all with the same result. Until Tilta identifies this packaging issue, I would avoid at all costs. The only exception is if you need a basic V-mount and 15mm LWS solution and Tilta's V-mount plate is out of stock.

Yes, the Tilta Smart V-Mount Arca-Type Baseplate (Black) has two 1/4-20 threaded holes on the base for directly connecting to a tripod plate.

Yes, the Tilta Smart V-Mount Arca-Type Baseplate for Canon R5 C Camera Cages 15MM LWS spacing supports rod mounting. The plate would be vertical when rod mounted.

Just to be clear, this is the smart battery plate plus the R5C attachment, but the battery plate is actually universal, right?

The Tilta Smart V-Mount Arca-Type Baseplate for Canon R5 C Camera Cage is designed to work with the EOS R5C but it can be used with other cameras. The mount on the baseplate is Arca-Swiss and can universally be mounted.

Will the top bracket connect to tilta half cage? Also, will it accept an arca plate on the bottom this unit?

Yes, the Tilta Smart V-Mount Arca-Type Baseplate for Canon R5 C Camera Cage (Black) can mount cages that offers an Arca swiss connection on the bottom of the cage, like the Tilta Half Cage for Canon R6 Mark II (Black). There is 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threading on the underside of the Tilta Smart V-Mount Arca-Type Baseplate for Canon R5 C Camera Cage (Black) to attach quick release plates to.
