Backscatter has designed a strobe specifically for underwater macro shooters with the MF-1 Mini Flash 1 Underwater Strobe, which combines a compact, 5.3 oz body with a tighter beam to maneuver your camera into the tiny crevices where the smallest critters live. A built-in focus and modeling LED light of up to 500 lumens helps you lock in the correct focus and keeps your rig's profile slim and lightweight. The MF-1 Mini Flash 1 was also designed in tandem with the OS-1 Optical Snoot, available separately, to help you isolate your subjects while keeping the background in deep black.
Rated for depths of up to 330', the flash has six power levels, set with an oversized red dial, and three LED power levels set with a silver push-button. The strobe syncs with your camera via fiber-optic cable and detects the internal flash shooting mode upon firing the first flash after powering the unit. The strobe takes a single 18650 lithium-ion battery, available separately, that is rated to last up to 1400 flashes or for more than an hour with the dual-beam LED lights on high power. The battery compartment features a double O-ring seal to help reduce water damage from common O-ring maintenance errors. Other accessories in the box include a 1" ball mount, a YS mount, a diffuser for wider-angle photography, a spare O-ring set, and O-ring grease.
