Atomos Ninja V Overview

Monitor, sync, output, and stream your camera video with this Atomos Ninja V 5" 4K HDMI Recording Monitor with CONNECT & Accessory Kit put together by B&H. The kit provides the Ninja V 5" 4K recording monitor, a CONNECT Network/Wireless/SDI Expansion unit, two L-series batteries, a battery charger, a DC power supply, a monitor mount, a high-speed HDMI cable, and a Master Caddy II.

The Ninja V is an on-camera monitor/recorder that records and plays back DCI 4K, UHD 4K, and HD video from purpose-built SSDminis. It features a 10-bit FRC IPS screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², which makes it suitable for use in both exterior and interior conditions. The CONNECT expansion unit mounts onto the back of the monitor and supports video input via 12G-SDI, wireless timecode sync, and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet connectivity. The included HDMI cable is designed to support up to 4K video.

This kit was the absolute best of the best. Great monitor/recorder, the perfect external drive, batts and charger, and especially the hot shoe mount. It's one of the best attachment devices I have and it's rock solid.

This review is targeted at my second purchase of The Ninja V recording monitor. After using the first Ninja V more than a year I am happy to state that it serves my needs very well, it is a heavy little monitor that is a testament to the build quality. The firmware updates provided continue to add to features that simply did not exist at my original date of purchase on the first Ninja V. Simply stated I am very satisfied.

Hello Phil, it does not however you can purchase a 5" accessories kit: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1473478-REG/atomos_atomacckt2_5_accessory_kit_for.html it'll have a bunch of things you can use for the NINJA V. (and Shinobi!)

Can I use the IDX System Technology SL-F50 battery to power this using the battery d-tap? Field use yet monitor LIGHT WEIGHT (cable to my pocket)

Hello Douglas, you'll need 2 things, 1) the ninja V already comes with it (the battery eliminator) 2) is the Dtap to DC cable from atomos ATOMDTPCB2 which goes from the eliminator to Dtap.

Can I use it with Fujifilm Xh1 to record 60p 4K 10bit 422? What about Fujifilm Xt2?

You will be able to use the Ninja V with both cameras. However those cameras only output 4K at up to 30fps and 8-Bit 4:2:2. The camera most output at 60fps and 10-Bit for it to be recorded in that format, which those cameras do not.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV Digital Camera has a clean HDMI and so it can be used to externally record with the Atomos Ninja V.

There is no audio recorded in the video when I connected the Ninja V with my Sony A7iii? How to get the audio?

If you are going HDMI out from your camera, into the HDMI port on the Ninja, you should receive whatever audio your camera is receiving. How are you getting audio into your Sony? Is there a setting within the camera's menu that can either deny or send audio through the camera's HDMI out port? I would start there. I've also found that the Atomos support personnel in the U.S. are extremely helpful with this sort of issue. There is a phone number to call their U.S. office in Oregon on the Atomos website.

Will the Ninja V work with the Nikon D850 ?

Yes. That is correct. You can mount a Atomos Ninja V 5" 4K HDMI Recording Monitor on a Nikon D850. All resolutions and frame rates will come over and be recorded.
