How does the Nikon 14-30mm f/4 compare to the new Nikon z 17-28mm lens. I know the 14-30mm Is a S lens and the 17-28mm is not. Is there a big difference? I plan to use the lens for landscape and group photos. I'm looking for good image quality and build quality of the
lens.
The 14-30mm has better optical quality due to the use of 4 ED and 4 Aspherical Elements plus Nano Crystal & Super Integrated Coatings. The 17-28mm has 2 ED, 1 Super ED, and 3 Aspherical Elements but does not have the same coatings the 14-30mm have.

I have heard the S version delivers superior quality images. How is the image quality of this lens comparing to the S version at the same focal length? Thank you.
Nikon NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 Lens BH #NIZ172828 delivers excellent image quality and since there is no S lens at this same focal length we can't compare this lens with another lens.

The answer below is not accurate. A 16-50mm lens on a Nikon Zfc (DX) will give you 24-75mm FX equivalent and 18-140mm will give you 27-210mm FX equivalent, so those lenses really don't give you a wider field of view than this 17-28mm lens.

Tamron currently makes only one lens for Nikon Z-mount which is the Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Nikon Z.
Nikon NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 Lens is a authentic Nikon lens made in Nikon facilities in China. The designs for Nikon and Tamron lenses are different.
