Compact and Lightweight
The Cine V-AF series increases compatibility with gimbals and drones by offering a unified form factor for its five different focal lengths (ultra-wide to medium-tele). By providing a compact, lightweight form with a unified center of gravity, the need to reset the balance and supporting equipment after a lens change is eliminated.
Autofocus Cine Lens
  • This series' autofocus ability will prove especially handy for single operators and drone and gimbal capture. Each lens in the series features the "Focus Save" function typically found in professional cine equipment and a custom mode that adds function by firmware, providing video-specific functions.
  • Easily switch to manual focus by sliding a button.
  • Get a manual focus index using the separately available Manual Focus Adapter accessory.
8K Support
The new Cine V-AF series supports resolutions up to 8K in a small and lightweight form, which is well suited for use with handheld gimbals and drones, as well as for studios and location productions.
Color Matching
All lenses within the new Cine V-AF series are color-matched to avoid shifts when swapping lenses, and the nine aperture blades allow for a natural-looking bokeh.
Tally Lamps
The lamps located on the lens front and on the mount index help the user check whether a video is recorded or not while shooting. This tally feature conveniently supports your video content creation even when shooting in a small space without a lot of equipment.

Samyang CINE AF 75mm T1.9 Reviews

Awesome Lens!

Disregard that earlier review by "Lance". This lens is awesome. The AF mimics a normal focus pull and the weight makes it easy to swap out on a gimbal. I originally bought the 24mm V-AF and have been using it for a lot of gimbal work, I found that at times I would need a 85mm, so I use the Sony 85mm 1.8. To keep things consistent, I got the 75mm 1.8 V-AF. When switching focus, it is more organic and natural compared to a photo lens. I got the front accessory as well to dial the manual focus and it makes the feel of the lens much better. If you are interested in using this for photo, fear not. The AF speed can be adjusted via the lens station and will give you fast speeds as a normal lens would. My only gripe with the 75mm is the breathing which is normal at this focal length. Wish Sony extended the lens breathing comp to 3rd party lenses. On the other hand, the 24mm V-AF doesn't have any lens breathing comp at all. Overall I am happy with the build, quality and performance of this lens. This is a video centric lens and as such, the expectations should align with it. For the price, it's reasonable at $649. Looking forward to more accessories and improvements of this lens.

Nice low contrast, but super slow autofocus, and too soft

I purchased the 75mm and 35mm Samyang Cine V-AF lenses, hoping for lightweight, autofocus, prime alternatives to Sony's 24-70 2.8 GM II. But after a side-by-side comparison, I returned the Samyangs. Compared with the Sony lens, the Samyang lenses had dramatically slower autofocus. I had my production partner sit in as an interview subject, and asked her to move her head around as if speaking in an animated way - left, right, forward, backward. With the Samyang lenses, immediately she went out of focus and it took the lens about two seconds (!) to restore focus. But the Sony lens never missed a beat: she stayed in focus constantly. (With both, I had the camera - a Sony FX6, which has a outstanding face-tracking AF - set to the highest AF speed and sensitivity.) Also, the Samyang lenses were notably softer, especially outside of the center of the frame. They're also much less contrasty. Of course, neither of those characteristics is inherently negative: with the Samyang, you get a look with character! But for me, that character makes the lens less versatile than the Sony. For example, I can add a Glimmerglass filter to the Sony to soften its tack-sharp edge and reduce a bit of contrast, when the shoot calls for that look. But if I'm filming something that needs to look sharper and less filmic, then I can use it as-is. The Samyang would suit some circumstances, but not all - and right now, working in the field as a one- or two-person crew, without a massive budget, I'm more inclined toward versatile gear.

The Samyang Cine V-AF 75mm T1.9 FE Lens (Sony E-Mount) is distributed, as Samyang brand, while the Rokinon Cine AF 75mm T1.9 FE Sony E-Mount Lens, is distributed, as Rokinon brand. Both lenses are manufactured by SAMYANG OPTICS. Though, the same lens, they are sold under their different distribution names.
