With the boom mic attached to the headphones with headphones attached to my Zoom H5, does that mean the Zoom will record me?
No, it doesn't. Adding the microphone requires a TRRS cable and connectors which come with the mic. That then goes from the headset to a breakout Y-cable (also supplied), which has two TRS male outputs, one for stereo headphones with green ring connector insulation, and the other for the microphone with black ring connector insulation. If you are then proposing to feed an XLR microphone input, you will need a Rode VXLR+ or VXLR Pro to adapt the connectors and the circuit impedance (Pro), and pass power to the headset condenser mic. That adapter can then be plugged into a microphone input which needs to provide phantom power.
