Fast Performance, Strong Security
The T7 Shield delivers a max read speed of 1,050 MB/s and a max write speed of 1,000 MB/s through its USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. It is approximately twice as fast as its predecessor, the T5, and up to 9.5 times faster than a traditional external hard disk drive. The T7 Shield supports 256-bit AES hardware encryption to keep the data safe and secure, even if the T7 Shield is lost. Plus, it provides access to Samsung's Magician Software, which lets users conveniently manage the drive.
IP65-Rated Durability
Carefully engineered by Samsung from the inside out, the T7 Shield is shock-resistant from drops of up to 9.8 feet. It also has an IP65 rating, providing dust and water resistance. The high-tech rubber exterior with Dynamic Thermal Guard controls heat to maintain steady performance even for large projects. The stylish rubberized grip prevents slips. Even though it has a rugged design, the T7 Shield is still compact and lightweight, weighing just 3.5 ounces.
Wide Compatibility
Store pictures, games, as well as 4K and 8K video on the T7 Shield. The USB Type-C port on the T7 Shield allows it to be compatible with a wide variety of devices. You can use the T7 Shield to connect to a Windows computer or a Mac. If you have an Android device, you can also use the T7 Shield to back up your photos and videos. Game consoles can also utilize the T7 Shield for expanded storage.

Samsung T7 Sheild External SSD Reviews

Having Issues with USB-C Cables Coming Loose

By Kevin

My sample size has just been two T7 Shields, but both suffered from USB-C cables easily coming loose if manipulated gently. I have located a few cables in my desk drawer that stay in securely that I have now marked to be used with the T7 Shield exclusively. So yeah, that's a problem. I have SIX original T7 drives and a T5 that don't have this issues. Also, four SanDisk SSDs which are clear of this problem. This impacted my trust in the drive and I have chosen to not take them out of the office. It's now hooked to my Thunderbolt hub and taken the place as my Time Machine drive, previously served by a 2TB T7. I do not suggest this drive to anyone. My fear of the cable coming loose on a premium product means it has to stay at my desk. Oh well, I am going to go back to 4TB SanDisk Pros.

I need to save lots of video and the iMac is almost full. I decided to go with SSD and what a life saver. This is so small I can slip it in my pocket and go.

Fast and high capacity

My previous external hard drive (HDD type) had become quite slow in importing from the camera media card to Lightroom, so I decided to switch to this Samsung T7 SSD. Great decision! It is so much faster: only minutes to import 900 - 1,000 photos rather than an hour and a half!

Disappointing Performance & Lint Collector

I was overall disappointed with the transfer performance of this drive. It topped out at about 600mb/s in real-world transfers. I have a WD Black nvme in an inexpensive USB C enclosure that sustains around 700mb/s on the same transfer. The drive is also covered in a black silicone case that can't be removed. The material is a lint/dust magnet and will quickly become covered if you keep in your pocket or even leave it on a desk for a few days. Overall disappointed and there are better options at this price point.

I have owned and used many of these Samsung T7 drives in the past. They have always been light, small, sturdy, dependable and very fast. This 4TB model continues that quality.

4TB in your pocket

I love having the ability to record to an SSD drive on my BMPCC Pro 6k. I already have 2, 2TB drives that have been so useful for recording media and just all around file management. I like being able to record to a drive and actually set up the premiere project on that drive and do all my editing in one place. I hope recording to SSD drives becomes the norm with all camera manufacturers, it so much easier than having to deal with multiple types of memory cards.

Bombproof!

I have been using the T7 (2GB) drives for years without any issues. Needing something bigger I went to the Sandisk 4TB. I had two of these drives fail on my within a week of having them...scroll through the web and you'll find the forums reporting a bad batch of drives.... Luckily this coincided with Samsung releasing 4TB drives, so that was an easy decision to make. I'll likely never go back to Sandisk now after that incident, but I know that Samsun drives have never failed me.
