The lens is both compact enough and powerful enough to keep on or switch to other cameras. Great output. This is one of the go-to lenses.

85mm has always been my favorite focal length for portraiture. The Z 85mm f1.2S allows you to capture some really special moments.

I was lucky enough to snatch this up used in perfect condition and it's incredible. So far I've only been able to test it out on some puppy portraits, but the color rendition and separation from the background are superb. Paired with my new Z8, it's just fantastic.
A lens worth waiting for

Having used this lens extensively this past month, I was just too impressed with the performance. Graduation season really allowed me to see what this lens was capable of.
Subject isolation was just really beautiful, very natural, and the shallow depth of field works so well with stage lighting to really highlight subjects. Being a short telephoto, it really compresses the background, which, with the f1.2 creates a very intimate diorama effect even in large spaces.
The contrast and color rendition just really made my 24-70mm f4 see so muted, I almost can't look at the pictures from that lens anymore...even though it's no slouch. Textures of clothes, and contrasts...wow...
Autofocus on the z6ii is quick, and eye detect works well, even wide open, which is astounding, having used a Canon 85mm f1.2 L mount in the past...
I had been waiting for a long time for Nikon to release this prime, and had twice been tempted to buy the 50mm f1.2. But 85mm really is my preferred focal length, and I'm glad I waited.
Ergonomically, I found it quite awkward at first, but after using it for a bit, it was readily adaptable, though my small hands sometimes have trouble reaching the fN button. The manual focus ring is smooth and allows for fingertip control, and the lens balances nicely in the hand. Aperture control ring is very smooth as well. It is comically large on a Z6ii though...imo.

Regardless of the sharpness, brightness, bokeh etc..., this is the prettiest lens Nikon ever built!

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S Lens (Nikon Z)
is the king of the prime lenses for portrait photographers. It's a bit more pricey then the 1.8 version, but the bokeh that is rendered at f/2 or wider is well work the money. This is a prime lens that is truly worth the money.

Yes, it's a bit large and heavy, but it is an excellent portrait lens and clearly ruggedly built. Love be able to open it all the way to 1.2 for some shallow depth of field shots and flexibility in low light. Traded in my 1.8 version and completely satisfied with the upgrade.
