G Lens Image Quality
Designed for demanding visual creators, this ultra-wide zoom offers no compromises regarding image quality, autofocus performance, or movie-making functionality.
  • Engineered for use with full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, the lens's constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the entire zoom range.
  • Features a combination of three ED elements, two AA elements, one ED aspherical element, and one standard aspherical element to effectively eliminate chromatic and spherical aberrations while also rendering excellent edge-to-edge sharpness and color fidelity.
  • Rounded 9-blade aperture provides deep, soft bokeh.
Enhanced Autofocus and Video Capabilities
Offering an enhanced feature set for both still photography and videography, the FE 20-70mm f/4 G lens delivers fast focusing performance, improved tracking, and a series of attributes specifically designed for videographers.
  • Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors provide smooth, silent, and precise autofocus performance as well as improved tracking performance for photos and videos.
  • Internal focusing system maintains the overall length of the lens and does not rotate the lens barrel while focusing, enhancing the use of circular polarizers and variable ND filters.
  • Updated optical design effectively eliminates focus breathing, focus shift, and axial shift to prevent unwanted movements and angle of view variations during movie recording.
  • Aperture ring with On/Off click switch and iris lock switch prevents the aperture ring from being accidentally moved between the f/4 and f/22 settings.
  • Optimized for filming, the lens supports active mode image stabilization and micro-step aperture control for smooth and seamless video capture.
  • Two programmable focus hold buttons and a focus mode switch for intuitive focus control.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 9.8" with excellent close-up performance at all focal lengths.
Handling and Design
Compact and lightweight, this highly-versatile ultra-wide standard zoom offers a unique and expansive field of view for everyday shooting.
  • Hybrid construction uses both metal and plastic components to maximize both durability and a low weight design.
  • Fluorine coating on front lens element repels water, dust, fingerprints, and other contaminants while also making it easier to clean the front of the lens.
  • Dust and moisture-resistant design includes a rubber ring to seal the lens mount for working in inclement weather conditions.

Was surprised how little this little gem is until I put on my a7riii camera. Super fast focusing and tack sharp too. And has great bokeh for a f/4 lens. Just a great all round lens.

Sweet Little Hiking Lens

I got this to replace my 24-105mm as a hiking combo along with the new 70-200mm f/4 II. Haven't had it out on a hike yet, but first tests results are good. Overall much lighter than my old set up which included the 100-400mm, which is important for me doing overnight hikes with lots of elevation gain here in the Cascades.

The versatility of this lens makes it fun to use.

This lens is a joy to use. I have had it for over 2 months now and I am very pleased with my purchase. I love the 20mm wider angle. 24 or 28 mm often is just not wide enough for me. In addition to this the lens has a short minimum focus distance allowing for an excellent maximum magnification of 0.39x. These 2 characteristics allow you to be much more creative than other similar lenses. The lens is also well constructed, quite sharp and has a nice bokeh for an f/4 lens.

20mm vs 24mm!

I've been using this lens for more than 3 months now, having bought it to replace my Sigma 24-70mm, which replaced my Sony 24-105mm, and am very pleased with it. The extra 4mm on the wide end is quite useful for the kind of shooting I do, and I don't miss the faster aperture (and the extra bulk and weight) of the Sigma. When I want to carry only one lens, this one fits the bill 99% of the time.

Perfect for a7sIII/fx3/zve1

Thanks to the amazing low light video performance of a7sIII/fx3/zve1, f4 is not an issue at all, therefore this lens can really shine in today. 20mm is really the perfect balance between distorted ultra wide and normal wide 24mm. It is always a dilemma in lens choice. Once you used f2.8 zoom, you can not go back to f4. Once you used 24mm you can not go back to 28mm. Now once you used to 20mm, it is hard to go back to 24mm. And once you used to under 500gram weight, it is hard to use heavy f2.8 zoom lens. You just have to make compromise to fit your need. This 20-70 f4 is pretty amazing for video overall.

Perfect for a carry-around do-it-all lens

I'm new to Sony mirrorless cameras and jumped in the deep end with an A7RV. This lens was chosen for its relative compactness and suitability for travel and landscape photography. So far I'm impressed with how sharp are the images, which therefore allows me to crop from the 60 MP sensor. I've tried a few night shots (on a tripod) and been pleasantly impressed. And lastly the 20mm wide end does give me some great landscapes.
