Built for all types of creatives, including photographers, filmmakers, 3D artists, music producers, developers, and more, the space gray Apple 16" MacBook Pro is the ultimate pro mobile workstation for the ultimate user.

The system features the Apple M.2 Max 12-Core Chip, which provides the power and performance needed to handle your professional workflows. The 16.2" Liquid Retina XDR display features a 3456 x 2234 resolution, 1000 cd/m² of sustained brightness, 1600 cd/m² of peak brightness, P3 color gamut support, and more. Designed for All Types of Creatives
Apple M2 Max 12-Core
Packed with 67 billion transistors, which is 10 billion more than the M1 Max and more than three times the amount in the M2, the Apple M2 Max integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Built with 2nd-Gen 5nm process technology, the Apple M2 Pro delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The 12-Core CPU features eight performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. The 16-Core Neural Engine provides support for on-device machine learning acceleration and improved camera performance. The M2 Max offers up to 400 GB/s of memory bandwidth as well as support for up to 96GB of unified memory. The efficient architecture of M2 Max means they deliver the same level of performance whether MacBook Pro is plugged in or using the battery. With up to a 38-Core GPU, the M2 Max can provide graphics speeds up to 30% faster than the M1 Max. The M2 Max can support up to four external displays. M2 Max features two video encode engines and two ProRes engines, bringing up to two times faster video encoding than M2 Pro.
16.2" Liquid Retina XDR Display
Featuring mini-LED technology, this MacBook Pro houses a 16.2" Liquid Retina XDR display. Delivering up to 1000 cd/m² of sustained, full-screen brightness, a high 1600 cd/m² of peak brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a billion colors, the Liquid Retina XDR display can handle the extreme dynamic range of HDR content, providing detailed shadows, brilliant specular highlights, deeper blacks, and vivid colors. The display is less than 4mm thin, which is achieved by having seven films and diffusers that mix and shape the light efficiently. The oxide thin film
ProMotion, up to 120 Hz Refresh Rate
With ProMotion technology, the MacBook Pro automatically varies the refresh rate to match the motion of your onscreen content. This helps preserve battery life while also making tasks feel more fluid and responsive. This means that the display can have up to a 120 Hz refresh rate. Video editors will also have the option to lock in a refresh rate that is optimal for their footage.
P3 Wide Color Gamut
The narrow-band LED-powered backlight allows the MacBook Pro to represent the P3 wide color gamut for brilliant, true-to-life color in photos and videos.
Storage, Bring Your Whole Studio with You
The MacBook Pro can be configured with up to 8TB of SSD storage so you can take your photo or video libraries with you no matter where you're headed. And with superfast speeds, massive files load in an instant and pro apps launch in a blink. This particular model comes with a 1TB SSD.
Connectivity
Wi-Fi 6E
The MacBook Pro now features Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) for faster wireless connectivity.
Thunderbolt 4
Thunderbolt 4 combines ultrahigh bandwidth with the versatility of the USB Type-C industry standard to create one revved-up universal port. It integrates data transfer, charging, and video output in a single connector, delivering up to 40 Gb/s of throughput for twice the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 2. The MacBook Pro is equipped with three ports, so you can do all of that from either side. Existing devices are easily connected with a cable or adapter. And Thunderbolt 4 is reversible, so no matter how you plug in, it's always right side up.
Display Support
Simultaneously supports the full native resolution on the built-in display at 1 billion colors and:
  • Up to three external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz over Thunderbolt, or two external display with up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz over Thunderbolt and one external display with up to 4K resolution at 144 Hz over HDMI.
  • Up to one external display supported at 8K resolution at 60 Hz or one external display at 4K resolution at 240 Hz over HDMI.

MagSafe 3
MagSafe 3 makes connecting a power cable quick and easy while also protecting your MacBook Pro. Apple also brings fast charging to the MacBook Pro, allowing you to charge up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
High-Fidelity Audio
Spatial Sound Speakers and Better Mics
The MacBook Pro features a high-fidelity, six-speaker sound system, which has two tweeters for a clearer soundstage as well as four force-cancelling woofers, resulting in 80 percent more bass. The sound system also supports spatial audio, providing a three-dimensional audio experience, whether you're listening to music or watching a movie in Dolby Atmos. Apple also has studio microphones that have a lower noise floor, resulting in clear calls as well as voice recordings.

Apple MacBook Pro 16" M2 Max Early 2023 Reviews

It's a beast

My old intel-based mac became painfully slow to the point where Lightroom and Photoshop were unusable. This absolute monster of a laptop eliminated those problems and will likely give me headroom to continue my photography workflows looooong into the future. Expensive but worth it for professionals or those who have a resource-intensive post-processing workflow.

Lightning Fast

Unbelievably fast. First, the look is beautiful. I love the chassis change over the previous iteration. The space gray looks like gunmetal and could not be more beautiful. I ponied up to get some extra tricked out settings and it's worth it. I opened several tabs and had them running all at once and didn't experience hardly any stutter. I'm sure something faster is bound to show up, but I'll be keeping this for the next couple of years. It works perfectly on the go and I have had zero issues with it.

Alternative to my Mac Pro

I got this MacBook to work on photos and video when I don't have access to my 2019 MacPro. So far it is very capable and can do everything the MacPro can.

The Perfect Laptop

I bought this laptop because I am a videographer. I use a Sony A7SIII & a Sony A1. Up until now I've needed to create proxies in order to handle all the footage from both of my cameras... and forget about it when I came to 8K there's no way my computer before was handling that. With this new computer, I can throw any type of codec that my cameras put out and handle it all without proxies. I'm in heaven. I love this computer!

Features show unified RAM; specs show embedded DRAM. Are they the same? If not which one is correct?
Asked by: Verlynn
Embedded usually refers to having the DRAM on the same piece of silicon. (For eg the old Nintendo GameCube has the DRAM on chip). The M1 chip have the DRAM on 1 to 4 separate silicon dies but they are packaged together. That on-package interconnect is slower than embedded, but is still faster than off chip. The unified memory model refers to the logical memory model provided to the devices. In the case of a nvidia GPU, the intel CPU does not have access to all the GPU memory hence its not unified. What is referred to here is that 4 separate DRAM module on a M chip can be accessed coherently and consistently by different components like the cpu and GPU. Note that this is not always optimal because say GPU need to have high bandwidth and the CPU needs low latency - most system will segment the memory for GPU and CPU , piece of mem can be optimized for bandowidth and other for latency. Having a unified memory means having the lowest common factor. Thats is how the integrated graphic controllers from Intel use in previously Ng ration, it uses the system DRAM for both graphics and CPU.
