JBL Bar 2.1 MK2 Reviews

There's a lot to like about this soundbar

This soundbar sounds great, was very easy to set up and use, and has design and operational features that are very well thought-out. SOUND QUALITY I'm very happy with the sound quality. Voices are crisp, the dynamic range is accurate, and the subwoofer adds just the right amount of thump and bass (not too little, not too much). INSTALLATION I installed this on the wall directly above my TV (with almost no gap between the top of the TV and this soundbar) - doing so avoids seeing any wires. The installation method is very clever - you mount two small brackets on the wall (using the provided template), and then the actual soundbar clips into those two brackets. This is very clever because you aren't trying to align a heavy object against your wall - you just mount the brackets, then slide the soundbar on. SETUP AND OPERATION I was pleasantly surprised that even though the subwoofer is a separate unit (no wires between the subwoofer and the soundbar), there isn't any setup to have to do. You plug in the subwoofer, plug in the soundbar, connect a cable from the TV to the soundbar, and when you power up the subwoofer and the soundbar, they are automatically connected. There is no pairing or anything like that. It just works. The audio inputs are: HDMI ARC, fiber optic TOSLINK, and bluetooth. At first, I tried connecting using a fiber optic TOSLINK cable but discovered that changing the volume of the TV did not change the volume output by the soundbar. No good. I knew I didn't want to connect via Bluetooth due to the possibility of random disconnects, so I switched to using the HDMI ARC input. That works GREAT because when you change the volume on the TV, the soundbar changes volume accordingly. And when you power off the TV, the soundbar automatically goes to sleep. And when you power on the TV, the soundbar automatically activates and is connected. The subwoofer connects automatically any time the soundbar is automatically activated. So everything just works. COMPARISON VS TV's BUILT IN SPEAKERS I use this with a TCL 65-inch QM8 Mini-LED QLED HDR Smart TV. This TV has a built-in subwoofer and a decent built-in sound system and speakers, and yet, I didn't really like the sound quality. Voices were a bit muffled from the built-in speakers and I found a need to have to turn up the volume considerably to have decent audio. But now, with this soundbar, voices are much crisper, the sound quality is crystal clear, and it's not necessary to turn up the volume just to be able to tell what voices are saying. PRICE POINT I believe that a soundbar should not exceed 30% of the cost of the television itself. This product fits well with a $900 to $1000 TV (the TCL 65 QM8 was $899).
