Key Features
  • 5.0 Optical Density
  • Optical Glass with 16-Layer Multicoating
  • Water, Oil, Dust, and Scratch-Resistant
  • Designed for Solar Photography
The 82mm Wolverine Revolution ND Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring from Kase is an ultra-dark solid neutral density filter that reduces the exposure of the entire image area by 16.5 stops. Increasing neutral density offers finer control in available shutter speeds or aperture settings for both still and video applications. Using a longer shutter speed makes it possible to increase motion blur to convey a sense of movement, or to dial in a video camera frame rate. Increased density also makes it possible to shoot using wider lens apertures, helping to isolate a subject from the background. This filter is made of optical glass and features a combination of 16-layer multicoating for reduced glare, plus resistance coating that resists abrasions, dust, oil, and fingerprints for easy cleaning. It features an orange filter ring for easy identification.

Kase Revolution Solar ND Filter Overview

The 82mm Wolverine Revolution ND Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring from Kase is an ultra-dark solid neutral density filter that reduces the exposure of the entire image area by 16.5 stops. Increasing neutral density offers finer control in available shutter speeds or aperture settings for both still and video applications. It features an orange filter ring for easy identification.

The included magnetic adapter ring lets the filter be attached or removed in just seconds and allows up to four Kase Wolverine magnetic filters to be stacked. The magnetic ring accepts standard 82mm lens caps, so it can be left on the lens.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

The Case Wolverine Revolution system is simply the best out there right now that I've tried. The ingenious two-piece magnetic system makes changing filters (literally) a snap. The adapter ring sits very unobtrusively on your lens, and the filter(s) are almost impossibly thin as a result. As for this particular ND filter? We took it to Albuquerque to photograph the annular eclipse in October 2023, and it was excellent. I'm not the most-experienced solar photographer, but the 16.5-stop measurement seemed to be about perfect for the job. I look forward to getting other filters in this size to use for different applications.

In terms of density is this equivalent to the Hoya PRO ND 100000 filter in order to take photos of the sun directly?
Asked by: Robert
Yes, the Kase Wolverine Revolution 10000ND Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring (82mm, 16.5-Stop, Orange) is the same density as Hoya ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (16.6 Stops). You shouldn't look directly to the sun with these filters though. So when using it on your camera you cannot look through the optical viewfinder, only look on the LCD.

Asked by: Renee
No, the Kase Wolverine Revolution 100000ND Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring does not need to be combined with another filter to do solar photography. However, it is important to note that this product can still cause severe damage if used for directly viewing the sun, whether or not through an optic, or a camera with an optical viewfinder.

Kase USA website does not even mention solar, just 16.5 ND Is this filter really safe for mirrorless sensor and eye with EVF?
Asked by: Craig
The Kase Wolverine Revolution 10000ND Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring (95mm, 16.5-Stop, Orange) does not cut UV and IR light. UV light could damage your eyes. The MrStarGuy 95mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter, BH #STSG95MMSOL, cuts UV, IR, and white light. The material looks wrinkled, and it is designed that way. This will not affect the image quality.
