Glyph Technologies Blackbox PRO Overview

Whether you are a business professional, audio engineer, or content creator, you can ensure all your important assets are properly saved with the 40TB Blackbox PRO RAID Desktop Drive from Glyph Technologies.

Equipped with dual 20TB 7200 rpm enterprise-grade HDDs, you get 40TB maximum capacity suitable for storing large files and important assets, plus two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports that provide you with data transfer speeds up to 550 MB/s and daisy-chaining for up to five additional devices. There is also one DisplayPort for connecting a 4K display directly to the Blackbox PRO RAID. Also supported are multiple RAID settings, including RAID 0 and 1 as well as JBOD and SPAN for those who do not require a RAID.

Connect More with Thunderbolt 3
Dual 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports allow you to daisy-chain up to 5 additional devices through a single cable to your computer.
Enterprise Grade
Up to 40 of 7200 rpm enterprise class hard drives, with speeds up to 550 MB/s. Blackbox PRO RAID is built for demanding workflows and mission critical projects.
Hardware RAID
Blackbox PRO RAID supports hardware RAID 0, 1, JBOD, and SPAN. You'll have the flexibility to set it up for maximum speed (RAID 0) or redundancy (RAID 1). Set it and forget it with no need to deal with finicky and slow software based RAID.
Built-In DisplayPort
Connect a 4K monitor directly into your Blackbox PRO RAID and streamline your desk setup.
Formatted for macOS and Time Machine Ready
The Blackbox PRO RAID is formatted for macOS and is Time Machine compatible right out of the box. It may be easily reformatted for Windows.
Stay Cool Under Pressure
Don't be afraid to put the Blackbox PRO RAID to work. The rugged aluminum shell acts as a heatsink, keeping the internal hard drive at its optimal temperature to deliver higher sustained speeds.
Locking Bay Doors
Ensure your drives are safely secure with locking bay doors, preventing unauthorized users from accessing your essential information.
Comprehensive Warranty
Every Glyph drive comes with their 3-2-1 warranty. Three years of full hardware coverage, including the cables, two years of Level 1 data recovery, and one year of advanced replacement.

Glyph Technologies Blackbox PRO Reviews

Feature film workflow

I've used Glyph Blackbox drives almost exclusively in the last few features. They always seem to work, no problems. Speed is fine. It's hard to consider SSDs due to price, but I've never encountered delays in the workflow because these Blackbox HDDs are slow. They're fine.

I have 4 Glyph Technologies External HD fr my Mac system. I am a photographer with many large photo files. I'm constantly editing and saving my photos. I find these external drives very reliable and easy to use. They are pre-formated for Mac which makes them easy to use right out of the box. The price is right for these reliable drives. However; 1st comes their reliability. 👍 ⭐️ 📷

will this work with RAID 5 for video editing?
Asked by: Matt
A RAID 5 setup requires at least 3 disks. The Glyph Technologies 40TB Blackbox PRO RAID Desktop Drive (2 x 20TB, Thunderbolt 3), B&H # GLBBPR40RDT3, has 2 disks. You can still use it for video editing, but it can only work in RAID 0, 1, JBOD, and SPAN modes. If you are looking for a RAID 5 array, I would recommend looking into the Oyen Digital Fortis 5C 50TB 5-Bay External Drive Array with SoftRAID 8 Premium Kit, B&H # OY5FU3C50TV8, which does support RAID 5.

The 12 TB model is listed as "Enterprise" in the title, however is the internal HDD itself (not the casing unit) being included as part of the enterprise-quality claim too (i.e. regarding warranty and MTBF)?
Asked by: Stuart
The reference to the enterprise is about the drive itself.

Can I use this drive with a USB C iPhone 15 Pro Max for photo storage?
Asked by: Stephen
While the Glyph Technologies 2TB Blackbox PRO 7200 rpm USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 External Hard Drive does have a USB-C cable to connect to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I would use an external SSD instead to take advantage of faster transfer speeds. A great option would be (B&H #SAE612TB) as it is faster and pocket sized, making it easier to travel with.
