Angelbird 1TB CFexpress Type A Reviews

Excellent Card For The Price

I bought 2 of these just before my trip to Alaska in June 2023, to use in a Sony a1 and Sony a7rV in slot 1 of both cameras. These shot flawless in excess of 5000 raw images. All images turned out perfect and I was finally able to shoot my Sony a1's capability. It DID hit the buffer on a few continuous shoots, but I was probably somewhere in the likes of 200-300 images in with each image roughly 127 mb, but the card was able to clear the buffer in a couple seconds. I'll take that over my Sandisk 256gb sd uhs-ii cards which hit the buffer about 100 images in and took awhile for it to clear before I could start shooting again. I shot 8k video in both cameras with the Angelbird cards and there were no performance issues, with solid, fluid and seamless video. If you aren't aware, 8k requires a fast PC and top of the line video card or you can't edit or play it correctly! All that said, I ran into an issue with one Angelbird card in my a7rV, where for some unknown reason it got a corrupted file. Usually that's not a big deal as I experienced that in one my my Sandisk 256gb uhs-ii cards. You can typically run a ckdsk from your PC to repair it and you won't lose any files...you can search the internet for more on the ckdsk trick and its free. My problem got compounded on the Angelbird card when I put the card back in my camera to check the files (wanted to be sure it wasn't the reader) and my camera wanted to format the card. I told it NO and it did it anyway. With the card now wiped, my only recourse was to fork out $90 for a recovery program which did recover the images, but I lost all of the 8k video (luckily transferred already). This card does not have a file recovery, so if you don't have one, buy one as they are invaluable...it's actually scary that it can recover most if not all of the data after you think you've erased it! I highly recommend a quality CFExpress type A reader...something name brand and not a cheap no name reader. File transfers were reasonably fast considering I was moving several gigs of data from the card to an external hard drive. I did not notice any heat issues, but I also wasn't checking it every 5 seconds. This is a great card for the amount of memory vs price, but I dinged it one star for the file corruption issue after I owned it less than 2 months. The card is back working since then, just making sure to transfer my images as soon as I am done with that shoot! I am hoping these will last awhile, because any type a card costs a small fortune and seemingly offers less performance than a type b....Thanks Sony for being different (sarcasm).

Outstanding cards, if you find them available buy them ASAP

I bought 2 cards! Decided that this is what I was waiting for and I don't care about the cost. I shoot with a Sony A1 and you can easily burn though 3 gigs a second with 30 fps and 100mb files. Now I don't hammer the shutter down but if there ever comes a time that I need to keep shooting so I don't miss that exact moment, then I am finally armed with the means to do so. I write every picture to both card, shoot only raw compressed as that is what's required to unlock 30 fps. I did 6 days in yellowstone and tetons and only filled the cards to 490gb. They come with 3 year warranties. I also have prograde 160gb cards and something I noticed is that those cards get very hot as where the angelbird cards do not. Hope that helps someone.

Just do it

Just get it, the price per GB is incredible, the speeds it writes and reads at are incredible, it's future-proof and it has a massive capacity. I dumped an entire card from the Angelbird card reader to a high-speed Samsung T7 SSD (also great btw) via my MacBook Pro USB-C and my jaw hit the floor it's so fast. Your buffer will clear ridiculously fast. Just do it.

I order this card about 3 weeks ago, got it last week. The card is very fast with no buffer or heat issues, the card shows 9,999 images, keep in mind its in fact 953- gig that you can use, I shot 7,700 images in 3 days, jpg/raw as a wildlife photographer, I need something large, I never know where I am going to be. I used this card in slot #1 as my main card, I found no issues, but there was one issue when you try to copy images from Camera to laptop, I noticed it would copy some files, then a Write media protection noticed poped up, so you have to use a card reader, there is no work around yet for this at this time. it took me, 3 hrs to get move files from the card, via card reader, I saw rates of, 21-36mps, delvin was pretty hot, so you will have to watch this, I know it was a long time, I was running it all via my laptop, still I am very pleased with the card, I think Anglebird, really did a Great job, giving us some other options, The images are perfect, no issues so far, I plan to order another card when I get the chance but I need more time with the card. B&H there service was great, staff very helpful, as was billing dept. I photo rare owls, grizzly bears, so This card, fits perfect with my work flow, I would recommened it.

A Rockstar of a Card.

Works great in the Sony A1!!! Normal formatting, no apparent change in performance from the Sony 160Gb cards. The A1 will only show 9,999 frames remaining until it get to less than that. Camera limitation not the card. Great Bang for the Buck. But now you may have to cull more.....

This card has not disappointed. It holds a lot of data and doesn't run out. For the money, it far outdistances itself from the 160GB Type A cards from Sony and ProGrade. Fast and has been very reliable on the Sony FX3.

I got cocky and never formated the card after a week shooting with it. Why not? I only used 400gb of the 1tb. Well I shot, I had previews in camera, turn off camera and got home to everything i shot gone. I have tested at home same thing. Even in computer sd card shows nothing shot today. I delete 5 clips and now it holds the data. I have tried two recover programs and nothing is on the card. I no longer am a supporter of this card or brand
