Outstanding Optics
A large-aperture high-resolution prime, the Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 FE offers outstanding edge-to-edge sharpness with soft and natural bokeh. Engineered for photo and video applications, this robust and lightweight lens is equally adept for photographers and videographers alike. 4 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and 3 aspherical elements combine to achieve outstanding sharpness, while also reducing sagital coma flare, which distorts the shapes of stars. The optical design also minimizes ghosting and flare when shooting starry skies and long exposure night scenes.
Intelligent and Rugged Design
Easy-to-access aperture switch enabling clicked and de-clicked operation. When switched to OFF, the stepless aperture mode quietly facilitates smooth depth-of-field transitions during video shooting.
Built-in AF/MF switch for quickly alternating between autofocus and manual focus modes.
Fn1 and Fn2 custom buttons allow for rapid access to key functions with select Sony cameras.

I love this for astro and shooting landscapes. Its built better then some of my sony lenses. super sharp.

My copy wasn't sharp throughout until F5.6

I really wanted to like this lens as the construction, features and images are top notch but it wasn't sharp halfway to the corners unless I was shooting at F5.6. Maybe it was just my copy but I returned it as the main selling point of this lens is to shoot at F1.8 or even F2.8. I am debating whether I should take the chance on another copy as there are so many rave reviews.

Fantastic Corner to Corner Sharpness

I purchased this lens as soon as stock was available. It arrived, but I waited for clear skies to test the lens for astrophotography. I captured an hour-long timelapse and combined the frames into a star trails image. Corner to corner sharpness is amazing, coma is almost non-existent when stopped down to 2.8. This lens is sharp. The overall quality for a $550 lens is outstanding. Highly recommend. The Function button when set to infinity is perfect and quick for fast accurate focusing at night.

The new Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 FE lens is a phenomenal performer for the money. It is tack sharp edge-to-edge, even wide open. The quality is apparent, as it feels as good if not better than many lenses costing 2-3X as much. As Dustin Abbott's and Christopher Frost's in-depth reviews suggest, this lens checks all the boxes and represents a new standard others will have to match.

Sharp, Clear, Fun

I've been using this lens for a week now and I was so exited to get my hands on it. The autofocus is a huge upgrade for snapping quick candid portraits compared to the vintage nikkor I almost ordered before this was newly released. In dark scenes, the glow around bright light sources is really nice, no need for a black mist.

Great lens for a good price. I needed a fast, wide-angle lens for astrophotography and this fits the bill perfectly. The display with focus ranges is a nice touch and I wish that all of my lenses had that feature.

Outstanding ultra wide angle lens. If you have a use for this focal length then this is the one to get. Image quality is great. Sharpness and detail is excellent. Autofocus is silent and accurate. Distortion at the edges is present but reasonably handled. Size and weight isn't great but not bad either. Weather sealing has held up in two light rainstorms. I use it for landscapes in lowlight, so the wide aperture has been a godsend. I've started using it for vlogging, and it performs excellently. I intend to use it as a wide angle lens with my Sony A7IV in 4k60, where the 1.5x crop makes this lens and effective 24mm. I haven't used it too much for video, but autofocus has been consistent and accurate with the little I've done. Overall I'm enjoying this lens. It's a good compliment to the 24-70 I have. It isn't my workhorse lens, but it fills a role that others cannot, with performance, build, and features I'd expect of a lens that's double this cost.
