RED DIGITAL CINEMA 790-0744 Overview

The KOMODO RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter Pack from RED DIGITAL CINEMA integrates the same precise electronic ND (neutral density) control used in the V-RAPTOR XL into a robust PL-mount solution for the RED KOMODO or KOMODO-X 6K.
Easy Exposure Control
This pack includes an RF to PL lens mount adapter, an electronic ND filter with a 2- to 7-stop range, and a clear filter to use with the mount adapter when an ND is not required. Control the ND filter via integrated buttons, DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0 LCD, RED Control, RED Control Pro, web interface, or any RCP2 compatible remote for easy exposure access in any configuration. The adapter also supports Cooke /i lens communications and ZEISS XD data pass-through.

Users who already own the RED KOMODO RF to PL Adapter Pack and have the KOMODO Side Ribs and Adapter Support Brackets should contact RED directly to purchase the RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND only.

By far the most solid RF-PL adapter, but it’s very expensive. The ND remote control via app is excellent. Great to finally have lens data back as we had on DSMC2. Maybe there could be a ND CPL filter? That’s something you can get for other manual RF-PL adapters such as the Meike, but those are less robust and offer no lens data. Wish it would be 0-8 stops instead of 2-7 stops with the ND cartridge, probably not possible. One can dream…

Completely transforms the camera into something small and AWESOME. Only real gripe is the inability to consistently control the ND if you're going with a dual handle setup. There isn't enough room to get a finger to the +/- controls. Otherwise, zero complaints here.

Can this adapter be used on other non RED cameras ...

Can this adapter be used on other non RED cameras as well, such as a Canon R5?

The RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter Pack has not been tested on other brands other than the RED models the adapter was made for. We are not aware it would be supported on the Canon R5.

Does the filter mount support 3rd party filters? What kind?

At this time the only two filters supported by the RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter Pack are two included filters; A clear filter for when no ND is needed and an Electronic ND Filter with a 2-7 stop range. It features precise control of ¼, 1/3 or full stop increments which allows choosing the exact exposure without compromising the intended aperture.

Would this adapter receive lens data from Arri LDS lenses such as Master Prime?

Yes, the ARRI LDS lenses support Cooke /i Data. The RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter Pack supports Cooke /i & ZEISS XD Data Pass-Through. What happens if you mount this adapter on a Canon R5 for example?

The electronic ND of the RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter Pack may not function, and the adapter has not been tested on the Canon R5. Furthermore, the mounting included that provides for extra strength would not be supported on the Canon R5.

Is there a mount for EF lenses that works with the same electronic filters?

The RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter Pack supports PL mount lenses. It does not support Canon EF mount lens models. An alternate Variable ND that could be used with the Komodo that has an EF lens mount is listed below.
