Dell P1424H Overview

Expand your screen real estate on the go with the Dell 14" Portable Monitor. Giving you deep colorization in a lightweight and compact form factor, you can easily bring this with you on your travels for optimal productivity outside the office.

Sporting a 14" In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, you get a high-quality 1920 x 1080 resolution with support for 16.7 million colors backed by 73% NTSC color gamut space and 300 nits brightness. Experience low latency with 6 ms Gray-to-Gray (GtG) response time, ensuring your projects and media look smooth while in motion. Colors as well as tints and brightness levels are all properly balanced with a 700:1 contrast ratio. This portable display connects to your DisplayPort-Alt Mode equipped system via included USB-C cable and also offers up to 65W power delivery to ensure your notebook remains powered up when paired with an optional wall charger. An included sleeve enables you to quickly store this display away, keeping it safe and secure while you are traveling.

Dell Display Manager
Easy Arrange allows you to easily tile multiple applications across one or more screens with pre-set window partitions and the ability to personalize up to four windows, giving you improved multitasking abilities. The Easy Arrange Memory feature remembers where you left off, so applications will go back to where you left them, even after you've unplugged. Shortcut keys can save you even more time, letting you easily configure your display management settings so you can get to work faster. Broken after a short usage

Initially it worked good. I periodically used it, with total running time less than 4 hours. One day, about 20% screen on the left side does not light on, ending up with white black lines. Done afterward.

Good but not perfect

Pros: - Really lightweight - Tiny bezel - Good stand design - Decent image - Good viewing angles - One-cable USB-C connectivity for supported devices - Low latency (by casual observation only, not measured) Cons: - USB-C connectivity only - Limited max brightness - Limited power pass-through (Steam Deck slowly loses charge via passthrough power) - No touchscreen - OSD is limited to brightness and reduced-blue mode; no other settings can be changed - Default white balance is a bit cool - Reduced eye-strain mode has a weird green tint to it; just don't use it Other info: - No battery - No speakers - Matte display surface It was really tough to find information prior to purchase about input support. I will say that I have tested the following: - Windows PC: works - Steam Deck: works - Samsung Galaxy S22 phone: works - Nintendo Switch: DOES NOT work - Windows PC via HDMI and USB-C HDMI adapter: DOES NOT work One thing that bugs me is that the display suffers from a pixel overdrive ghosting effect. This is the kind of thing that appears on some monitors that are attempting to improve their pixel refresh time by hitting pixels with an inverted image as they transition. On this monitor it is quite severe, causing unpleasant artifacts in games with lots of whole-screen scrolling. I recognize that this isn't marketed as a gaming display, but it connects so easily to the Steam Deck that it's unfortunate that this overdrive ghosting makes it less pleasant to use that way. Perhaps someday we'll discover a service menu that allows us to adjust this behavior, or get a firmware update that fixes it. Dell - please look into this.

The Dell 14" Portable Monitor (BH #DEP1424H) is designed for horizontal use. But you may be able to change the orientation with your computer settings.
