SanDisk Professional G-RAID Mirror External H... Overview

Take on large, challenging projects with added peace of mind by including the 36TB G-RAID Mirror 2-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array from SanDisk Professional in your creative workflow. With its hardware controller and PRO-BLADE SSD Mag slot, this versatile array reliably stores your data while offering high speed and capacity.
Reliable Data Storage
Inside the stylish enclosure are two 18TB 3.5" Ultrastar Enterprise Class 7200 rpm hard drives that are preformatted APFS for for macOS 11 or later and may be reformatted for Windows 10 or later. It also works well with iPadOS 14 and later. Delivering the reliability needed for backing up massive files, the G-RAID MIRROR is preconfigured as RAID 1, which simultaneously creates a 1:1 copy of your data on both drives. That way, you'll have a backup if one drive should fail. However, this also means that you can only work with half the capacity of the array while read and write speeds reach up to 260 MB/s and 250 MB/s, respectively.

If you prefer to work with content directly from the G-RAID Mirror, the hardware-based controller lets you change to RAID 0 mode by flipping the DIP switches located on the rear of the enclosure. Doing so combines both disks into a single volume and splits the data between them, giving you access to the full 36TB capacity while boosting the read performance to up to 510 MB/s. But be aware that changing modes will erase the data from the drives.

Adding a PRO-BLADE SSD Mag
A dedicated slot allows you to insert a separately purchased PRO-BLADE SSD Mag drive to add storage and transfer data to and from the G-RAID Mirror without increasing its footprint or having to connect a second device to your computer. You can also work with files directly from the PRO-BLADE SSD Mag at speeds of up to 1000 MB/s.

Dual Thunderbolt 3 connectors are available, each providing up to 40 Gb/s transfer speeds with compatible devices. So, copying 300GB of footage would take about a minute. The second port allows you to daisy chain up to five Thunderbolt 3 devices such as additional storage drives and 4K monitors to significantly enhance your workflow.

A Streamlined Workflow
The included color-coded Thunderbolt 3 cable helps to keep your workspace organized. Additionally, the G-RAID Mirror's durable space gray aluminum construction works with the cooling fan to quickly dissipate heat and maintain optimal performance with demanding workloads.

Reliability issues

Having had excellent reliability on the over 100 G-Tech GRaids drives we have, we have not had the same experience with the SanDisk iterations. Of the five 24TB's we bought, 1 died after a couple months and a second was dead right out of the box. We buy drives in pairs and 1 is an exact duplicate of the other as a data backup. They are formatted RAID 0 for speed.

My drive is only showing the size as 22TB when I mount it to my imac. WHat am I doing wrong?
Asked by: ronald
The SanDisk Professional 44TB G-RAID Mirror 2-Bay RAID Array (2 x 22TB, Thunderbolt 3) comes pre configured in RAID 1 with one of the 22 TB drives being a mirror of the other in order to protect the volume from a drive failure, this RAID level reduces the usages storage on the volume to 22 TB. The array can be reconfigured in RAID 0, which will give you 44 TB of usage storage, by flipping both the 1 and 2 RAID control switches on the back of the device to the on position.

What if the RAID switches of the drive were bumped by accident and switched? will this erase the data on it? how to avoid safely
Asked by: Elie
Changing RAID modes will erase data, but to do requires 1) removing power, 2) changing the DIP switches, 3) pressing a recessed button with a paper clip for 10 seconds while re-powering. Kinda of hard to do by accident wouldn’t you agree?
