Ice  Multicoated Solar ND Filter (82mm, 16.5-Stop)
Key Features
  • 5.0 Optical Density
  • Optical Glass
  • Darkens Entire Image Area
  • 82mm Front Filter Threads
The 16.5-stop, 82mm  Multicoated Solar ND Filter from Ice is a neutral density filter with a 100,000x filter factor that provides a 16.5-stop exposure reduction. It creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time, you can create motion blur for special effects or to convey a sense of movement. Opening your iris allows you to create a shallow depth of field, which can help isolate your subject. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

Ice ND100000 Filter Overview

This neutral density filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity. It features a slim aluminum alloy filter ring that helps prevent vignetting while remaining durable and lightweight. This version also has an eight-layer multicoating on either side, for 16 layers in total.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

What is the spectral response and is it certified UV safe for viewing?
Asked by: John
I was asking to find out if it is safe to directly view the sun through this filter which is why the "UV safe for viewing" was part of the question. I know it is not specifically a UV filer per se. Thanks.

It would be best to use one that is listed for Solar photography. This is a link for one that is larger with a step-up filter ring, https://bhpho.to/3shqkMJ and https://bhpho.to/3YEbnk3.
