Hi, is it necessary to have both drives of the same capacity or is it possible to have one 16TB drive and a 12TB drive?
It is possible to use hard drives with different capacities in each bay of the Synology DiskStation DS224+ 2-Bay NAS Enclosure, B&H # SYDS224PLUS. Keep in mind that if you intend to use traditional RAID 0 or 1, you will lose the extra capacity of the larger drive. For example, if you have a 16TB drive and a 12TB drive in a RAID 0 configuration, the total usable capacity will be 12TB.

Would this Nas System be enough for 4K video ...
Would this Nas System be enough for 4K video editing simultaneously from 2-4 different computers?
No, the Synology DiskStation DS224+ 2-Bay NAS Enclosure, B&H # SYDS224PLUS, would not be a good option for 4K video editing from 2 to 4 different computers at the same time. A more suitable option would be the Synology DiskStation DS1522+ 5-Bay NAS Enclosure, B&H # SYDS1522P, with the Synology E10G22-T1-Mini RJ45 10G Ethernet Module, B&H # SYE10G22T1M, upgrade card. This will then allow you to have better speeds as long as your computers are also 10GbE capable.

Has anyone had any trouble with non-Synology ...
Has anyone had any trouble with non-Synology memory modules, support or warranty service? Synology branded memory is overpriced.
Reuben's answer below is correct -- just to perhaps clarify what he says, there isn't a problem using non-Synology memory as long as it's approved by them. This is what I did over a year ago and have had zero issues and it works great. Just review their compatibility list prior to upgrading: https://www.synology.com/en-us/compatibility?search_by=category&category=rams
